I think the list is simple. 1. Money. It’s a job after all. 2. Years. But not to stretch out the money. Add more money and let my retirement be my choice. 3. Playing time. Well they shouldn’t sign a 1b. But Devers and Casas are both among the worst at their positions. Chapman will unfortunately require a larger deal than the Sox should spend upgrading the infield. After him the best defensive 3b on the market is probably Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who should only be signed as a bench player. They probably simply go with Urias, who does have some right-handed pop at 2b. Whether they offer arbitration or non-tender him and try to re-sign him for less remains to be seen…

The Rockies never trade anyone. Luis Urias, already on Boston, hit 39 HRs and had an OPS+ of 111 in 2021 through 2022. He’s not pop-free and does hit right handed. And he’s 10 months younger than Rodgers…

I think DD got fired for questionable (not illegal, just expensive and not smart) financial practices, which a lot of teams have limitations on.

Money is the safe answer that works in 99.999999% of all free agencies. There are other reasons. I remember a story about one pitcher (I want to say Rick White, but I’m also sure that’s not it) once negotiated his own deal with the Cardinals because St.Louis had some very good special education schools his son needed. But those are the rarest of the rare reasons…

We, committed in March. They actually blew everything up kind of fast. They didn’t want to see of it was just some bad years from some key folk? Maybe see if Edwin Diaz makes up some of the slack?
