  1. Yes I marveled at that uncut gem and decided it summed him up nicely…
  2. Uwasawa got roughed up by the Braves for 7ER in 2 IP. If you ignore that one outing and just look at the rest of his spring, his ERA drops from a pathetic 13.03 to a less pathetic but still pathetic 8.22. I know it’s a small sample size, but so far he’s just flat out hittable. Maybe he can channel his Inner Hideki Okajima? The only likable thing about him is he pitched for the Nippon Ham Fighters. Good for two reasons. First, NPB does seem like the more competitive Japanese League. And second, if you do have a favorite Japanese team, it damn well better be the Nippon Ham Fighters. Everyone else is much less ham-tastic…
  3. Still taking the over
  4. If you’re being blocked by a guy who had to settle for a minor league deal from Pittsburgh, you’ll need more than just an open lane…
  5. I don’t get why they ignored the cheaper options sitting out there like Lorenzen, Lauer, etc…
  6. And shuffleboard!!
  7. Tyler O’Neill has homered in each of the last 4 opening days, only 1 of 4 MLBers ever to have such a streak. No one has ever homered in 5 straight. So that’s one more reason to watch…
  8. The Yankees acquired Joe Berti from Miami to fill in for him. Must be nice when injuries trigger the front office to react on occasion. Per BTV, the Yankees underpaid for him…
  9. Tampa had him on a minor league deal, but not sure if he had an upward mobility clause and can refuse assignment to Worcester. Soft tosser. Presumably a depth option…
  10. I will go along with the first part - bring in sitting training should help. Of course the outcome could also be that he gets hurt and misses a lot of time…
  11. Someone made a show about baseball in Alaska and didn’t include Randy Kutcher?!!!
  12. What movie was Lowrie portrayed in? My first thought was Moneyball, but that all took place while Lowrie was still at Stanford…
  13. But Jed Lowrie was legally a zombie…
  14. Let’s put it this way - missing spring training didn’t help. Especially since he was facing a bunch of pitchers s couple months ahead of him…
  15. No one is indicting Anthony’s ability. The indictment is the Sox front office making MLB roster decisions today that factor in a 20yo player with 10 games above A ball. That’s actually a ridiculous way to run a team that will burn you more often than not…
  16. And that would be great. But the point is - what if he isn’t? What if 2027 comes and goes and Teel is another Blake Swihart, Mayer is Garin Cecchini and/or Anthony is Lars Anderson 2.0? Then what?
  17. Not sure if Reyes can be sent down without clearing waivers. Valdez can…
  18. You do…
  19. Tightness or not, he signed on March 23 and missed almost all of Spring Training. I’m sure he had some facility he worked out at, but it’s not the same. Very few players seem to miss spring training and jump right in ready to go…
  20. True as well. Anthony might be a terrific player - some time in 2027. What will the team do between now and when he is? And if he does take 4 years to become a star, will the Sox trade him away because he’s only two years away from costing money?
  21. In 2022, he signed on March 23. Before 2023, he injured his arm warming up for the WBC …
  22. If they’re banking on Teel/Anthony/Mayer to bring the franchise back to glory, I hope there is a contingency plan, and it better not be Bleis/Cespedes/Perales. I’m ok with the Sox not commuting large and long to a pitcher solely because he was the best/only option on the market. Montgomery is divisive on the upper limits of his skill set. Personally, I think he’s good but unexciting. On the scale of Dodger Hall of Fame pitchers, he’s more Don Sutton than Sandy Koufax. If they like next year’s free agent market better, fine. But it is likely to get smaller between now and then, through extensions and possibly injuries. It’s a risky move, because if they come in last this year and sit out the starter market again, the only fans left will be the diehards. And even some of them might walk away…
  23. You could say the same thing about Wheeler, except it was only 7.2…
  24. Maybe it matters that Story has actually had a spring training for once…
  25. Oh so NOW you’ve come around to that theory.
