If your definition of a big loss is losing out on Michael Wacha, who has obviously been so dominant in his recent years that all the highly competitive teams in dire need of his clearly elite services couldn’t outbid the Royals. It’s not one of the big worries. It’s a topic that get garnered a few posts discussed among a few people who simply like talking baseball. No need to call it out like you have to discredit anyone not hitting the teams top priorities in their discussion. Not sure if you’re aware of this or not - but what we r talk about doesn’t really matter. We could spend 3 days discussing whether or not to retire bat boy uniform numbers and it wouldn’t matter. The Sox don’t monitor this forum. In fact, when Talking Heads talk about all the internet unrest among Sox fans, they’re not talking about this forum. I think that is likely. If the Sox have Duran and O’Neill lined up for two starting outfield spots, why also have two rookie outfielders? Especially if both have options…

No, but you can just pick your spots, unlike if he gets hurt. Unless Casas is going to miss multiple games and go on the IL, there is no need to call anyone up. They can't just call up Dalbec for one game unless they have a double header than day or they demote someone. They can pick spots and rest him against the occasion LHP if they like. Or before another off day. Whatever...

I'm going over on both. Even JD Martinez, when he signed with Boston, had less league-wide interest and took longer to sign and still got a deal in between those two. If either pitcher takes a deal in that range, it will have an opt out after years one or two. Or both...

St. Louis did use him in CF a couple years ago. And a little last year. DRS didn’t like him out there, but UZR did. OAA was neutral. But the total sample was only 393 innings over 2 seasons…

The Sox don’t need a RHH 1b. They really only need a backup for Casas’ scheduled days off (which can be controlled) and in case he has to leave mid-game for whatever reason…
