    Murphy is a good fit, but is on the IL after fracturing his middle finger. Concerns that he’s been going down hill for 3 years are overblown, since he only has 14 plate appearances this year, and his 2025 wasn’t bad, netting 2.5 fWAR in only 337 PA. Atlanta needs SS and SP. They’ve been using MLB journeymen Mauricio Dubon and Jorge Mateo at SS, and have activated and DFAd Carlos Carrasco multiple times this year to start games.     Actually I have heard George Raft was nearly cast as Rick Blaine, but he turned it down along with several other major roles that went to Bogart, including Roy Earle in High Sierra. I have heard Reagan was nearly cast as Victor Laszlo instead of Paul Henried. But I can’t believe a B-movie player like Reagan would have gotten a lead in a major motion picture like Casablanca. That would have been like giving the role of young Vito Corleone to Eric Roberts instead of DeNiro.     They were in the postseason two years ago, and it’s usually not a huge step for any team. The difference between the best teams in MLB and the worst is one win every 5 games. Tear downs and rebuilds rarely work, and KC might find it easier to keep the stars they do have and add on. Most times when young star players are dealt, it’s not to kick start a rebuild so much as to save money. KC already has their commitment from him. In 5 years, his player options kick in. Maybe they move him in 3 to 4 years…

    It’s actually quite common around the league. Teams do it for cheaper pitching or to get easily moved trade fodder. The long term deals for healthy pitchers almost always result in significant lost time as well, and can be far more debilitating to the team. These short term deals, you’re only expecting one healthy year. Which is all Boston got from Price, and Atlanta got Sale’s one healthy year on that contract. Also Sale was looking pretty injured when he signed that deal…

    Rumors do exist regarding CJ Abrams’ availability. Royals GM JJ Picollo is more like to trade you his children for a glass of expired milk than he is to deal Bobby Witt. I know you don’t like BTV, but a fair package on that site from Boston is Rafaela, Tolle, Arias, Suarez, Early and Bennett. And it might not be far off for one of the youngest and most exciting players in the game that is already under control long term…
