  1. And I think a lot of people overlook that Kike Hernandez and his OPS+ of 62 is no longer penciled into the starting lineup…
  2. For starters, Grissom will outhit the Arroyo/Reyes/warm body crew that manned second last year. The Sox offense last year was basically average. In think they might take a slight step forward this year..,
  3. I know they can add people. But how about an arm or two on a minor league deal that has actually pitched in MLB before? Depth is a big, big deal…
  4. I still think Montgomery is possible, and definitely think he is more likely than Bauer. This does leave the big mystery around Chapman. If the Sox signed him and traded Duran, they’d get their RHH, better defense, and hopefully a decent arm back for Duran…
  5. Why exactly is O’Neill expected to post numbers from Turner and Duvall? Will the Sox be using one less player this year? And more important - why is the goal to recreate the 2023 offense?
  6. I call that game “Werner is a f***ing liar.”
  7. Not his job to…
  8. He’s had numerous injuries. I was talking about the physical toll the man takes…
  9. The Sox will mend at least 10 SP. Right now Bello, Pivetta, Giolito, Crawford, and Houck are the top 5. Annoyingly, 6 and 7 appear to be Whitlock and Winckowski. Because - why have a bullpen? That leaves Criswell, Walter, and Murphy as the only other starters on the 40 man, and calling Murphy a starter is such a stretch it makes me ignore that I listed Walter. They really, really need starter depth. I know they have some non-40 man options. But an experienced one won’t kill this team. If the Nationals can sign Zack Davies to a minor league deal, can the Sox get a pitcher to sign one as well?
  10. Eovaldi had his second one nine years ago, so he really did beat those odds. But it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for him…
  11. He didn’t say anything THAT optimistic…
  12. Sure it would. Give him some exposure to MLB pitching and see whether or not he really is a solution.
  13. We’re at that stage in the offseason where you look at the big remaining free agents and realize many will just go back to their team from last year. But Texas is out on Montgomery. San Diego has been cutting payroll all off-season and can’t/won’t afford Snell. Chapman and Toronto? No buzz about it and they might have bigger needs. But I could see it. I expect Bellinger to return to the Cubs…
  14. He’s not great trade bait, given he requires a 40 man roster spot, is out of options, and has only pitched 210 innings in the past 5 years…
  15. He does stand a good chance of breaking camp with the team if he stays healthy, simply because it’s unlikely everyone else will as well…
  16. I’m putting the odds at 60% Mata gets DFAd before May 1…
  17. He might just be having a Senior Moment…
  18. Probably in camp gearing up for AA ball…
  19. Woodruff back to Milwaukee…
  20. He’s the most likely one. Luetge is on a minor league deal. Weissert is a 29yo career minor leaguer who probably gets DFAd before the season ends…
  21. Yes. I’m hoping he works out. I know nothing about the guy. At some point the Sox should add an actual starter…
  22. Great. Maybe one of them will make the team…
  23. Ok I don’t mind dealing Schreiber specifically. (And can we quit pretending average = bad.) That they are moving healthy arms to clear way for longer term recovery hopefuls isn’t an exciting plan to watch. It’s Paxton Redux. And Paxton took two years to give the Sox 96 innings of a 4.68 FIP. Do you think he was worth it?
  24. That the Sox are dealing healthy arms for question marks on the IL all but makes it official they have given up on 2024. I also think you’ve seen enough of these injury recovery contracts to know they don’t pan out at a very high rate…
