It’s cyclical with lots teams, too.
Yankees and Dodgers, it’s nearly every year.
Two years ago, the Rangers went crazy.
Last year, it was the Mets.
This year, the Royals spent a lot.
And next year, someone will replace the Royals on that list…
The Sox do outdraw the Orioles and by a lot.
Sox attendance per Baseball Almanac
2019: 2.92mill
2020: COVID
2021: 1.73mill
2022: 2.62mill
2023: 2.68mill
The winning team drew the least and by a lot, although this was very likely influenced by COVID.
Per B-A, the Sox haven’t drawn 3 mill fans since 2012, a year in which they came in last. Two championships since have both drawn under 3 million fans…
I’d say there are scenarios.
The Red Sox don’t pay out big anymore, but that puts them on the longer list than if they were willing to splurge once in a while. I just don’t see Pivetta really attracting the interest of the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Astros or Phillies or any team that spend like those teams. Just like how Giolito didn’t this year…
Especially if it is done with the goal of keeping Whitlock out of the rotation.
But, let’s face it, Whitlock is absolutely going to be in the rotation when he gets back…
But that wouldn’t be helpful.
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you give him another hobby to spend some of that $360mill contract on. I mean, it’s not like bowling is all that expensive. Mookie needs a bass boat…
Apparently you missed yesterday’s game thread.
I questioned his choice of Valdez and his sub.450 OPS at DH. Valdez hit 2 HRs and 10 TB. So now I will see if lightning strikes twice…
It’s not about what DD was allowed to do then. It’s about what he’d be allowed to do now.
Henry went with Bloom because he wanted to stop the heavy spending and build from within. DD does actually have a part where he did things like that, and for Henry, no less. So if Henry did keep DD on board, he’d have to operate within the same budget Bloom did, and not the one he has in Philly…
