  1. They couldn’t DFA Dalbec and demote Gasper?
  2. That’s because zombie horses must be stopped and stopped immediately…
  3. Guillorme is available for everyone who wants a .500 OPS defensive SS. Granted, Luis has very little experience at SS, and might lack the range. But he has good hands and can make plays…
  4. Wait. Does that mean you’d miss me?
  5. I cut the Sox some slack there. Sale has been nothing but frustrating for the last 4 seasons, and his inability to stay on the field was costly enough that it probably made him difficult to replace. (Becoming cheap bastards didn’t help either.) Not sure how much potential the Braves saw in Sale. They did, after all, have the Sox take on the bulk of the financial risk, which, if they knew they were getting 2017 Sale, was definitely a way to jeopardize that deal. And as it looks like Sale wanted an extension as a condition to approve the trade, Atlanta obliged but used the opportunity to lower his AAV in the process. I think Atlanta is equally happy and surprised with how this has all panned out…
  6. It was my first thought when he signed the extension. There might even be a post on here stating it…
  7. So now the debate is Sale’s health at the time of the extension? Here’s the thing, and you broached it but then ignored it. Sale signed this deal at a time when his older peers like Price and Zack Greinke were signing longer deals in excess of $200mill. Sale clearly settled for a deal much less than his expected worth. Why? Possible he was aware if he pitched the 2019 season that he wouldn’t command a deal in that range any more anyway? He already spent the bulk of his early career as one of the most underpaid players in the game, why continue there? One would think his agent, whom Sale pays to advise him, would have been SCREAMING “open market!!” so loud it could have been heard at both poles simultaneously. Unless Sale wasn’t exactly his old self physically. And someone will of course counter tis with “maybe he just wanted Boston and money wasn’t important” and pretend that is a definitive counterpoint that clinches the argument. It is a possible maybe, but it doesn’t eliminate other possibilities. And the fact that Sale had a rough year (by his standards) in 2019 and then 4 years of various injuries does support him knowing he had some physical issues that could be problematic…
  8. Economics are a little different, too. After 6 seasons in MLB, Yount still only had a .672 OPS, and in today’s game would be ready for free agency. Despite the weak offense, do you gamble on a shortstop who hasn’t been hitting but is also only 23?
  9. Help is on the way!! https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/08/red-sox-rich-hill-nearing-agreement-on-minor-league-deal.html 8th time they signed him. That has to be a record…
  10. They should have acquired DeJong. They couldn’t offer a 22yo high A ball pitcher with 5 IP on the season? DeJong also has a 1.000 OPS since the trade…
  11. Too many whiny bitches out there. “These games are too long.” Whatever. If MLB wants to make their game more appealing to fans, why not look at the broadcasting side and not the baseball?
  12. f*** you, Opener! Why didn’t MLB just contract the Rays? Every time the Rays come up with some clever strategical plot, MLB tries to ban it. If the Rays deployed more hit-and-run plays, MLB would ban that too..
  13. Too much ham., not enough egg?
  14. He’s better than Hamilton. Maybe Sogard?
  15. Hypothetical question - how do you think the Sox would be if they acquired a career average Giolito? Career average for Giolito is 12-12, 4.43 ERA, 98 ERA+ over 193 IP…
  16. No one disagrees they’ve turned out badly. Not sure why you find it so necessary to reiterate it over and over…
  17. I was in favor then because I had complete given up on getting anything out of Sale after he just kept getting injured year after year. It couldn’t have worked out worse. And then Breslow/whoever did nothing when Giolito went down. So disappointing. I never figured out what “full throttle” meant. But when some Sox exec (Werner?) gave his explanation, all ingout out of it was he didn’t know what it meant either…
  18. Chris Martin and Josh Winkoeski aren’t ham and eggers. Let’s not confuse them with Brennan Bernardino or Bailey Horn…
  19. When the trade was made, you griped about paying too much. Not about losing Sale, Just about losing $-7mill in the process. Great that your hindsight is 20/20…
  20. Westbrook, Sogard, and Gonzalez are fungible talents. Hamilton has some nice skills and glaring weaknesses. Ditto Valdez. But this type of depth is hardly a problem. Hamilton isn’t going to replace Mayer. Neither is Sogard, Gonzalez, etc. In 2025, the Sox likely have Story, Grissom, and Mayer fighting for two infield spots. The rest, if still around, challenge the odd man out for a bench spot…
  21. When it looked like Giolito was a replacement for Sale, it was a clear step down in talent for an expected step up in IP. And with a bunch of young starters (Houck, Crawford, Bello), that was important, as it was supposed to tax the bullpen less. But when Giolito went down and they didn’t replace him despite the availability of numerous options, that was the real mistake. The Sake trade didn’t work out. Some trades don’t. Some just don’t right away. But not replacing the IP from Giolito was just negligent…
  22. Like most of us early in this thread, you were in favor of this trade, right? It’s an understandable position. It’s been a long time since Sale was Sale. I bet plenty of folks expected him to be injured by now…
  23. If the Sox could trade Story, don’t you think they would? Didn’t they try last offseason?
  24. But why was Martin pulled? Not that’s he’s the Second Coming…
  25. The consensus today is the only team to finish under .500 in the last two seasons should have gambled on keeping Sale for some reason…
