  1. Notin’s revamped Deadline Wish List Priority 1: Starting pitcher. Preferences in order are 1. Zach Eflin 2. Nate Eovaldi 3. Yusei Kikuchi 4. Tyler Anderson. Any of these 4 makes me happy. Priority 2: RHH OF/1b/DH. Mark Canha is the perfect fit here. Priority 3: Starting pitching depth. Nothing crazy, just maybe a Chris Flexen-type.
  2. No, but it’s easier to teach pitchability than velocity…
  3. He did get fired, but over a year after going over the cap…
  4. No idea why people get worked up about that, especially with high school shortstops. Would people be happier if we grabbed a worse 18yo athlete solely because he played a different position that he’s going to be switched from?
  5. Westbrook has 27 plate appearances. There’s a better than decent chance he doesn’t hold up as is. Interestingly, Westbrook is 11 days older…
  6. “… if the deal was right” is such a ******** qualifier. It’s sad that Sam Kennedy still speaks in phrases we call each other out for on Talksox…
  7. His StatCast is impressive when you consider that his Bat Speed is practically the worst in MLB… https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/justin-turner-457759?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  8. Nick Senzel was just placed on release waivers, which he very likely clears. But a claim wouldn’t be a financial albatross. He has a .717 PS vs LHP this year. Not great but he is .783 for his career and was over 1.000 in 2023. He has played 2b, 3b, and all 3 outfield spots. Presumably he could handle 1b, although it isn’t necessary with Romy Gonzalez around. His StatCast shows both clear strengths and weaknesses. Could platoon at 2b with Hamilton or in RF with Abreu. He’s a better option than Jamie Westbrook…
  9. If Breslow doesn’t get one, then he should sell…
  10. Yeah there was time to replace Giolito. That they didn’t activate Whitlock getting hurt is unfathomable to me. Get another SP ASAP…
  11. That the Sox still only have 4 starting pitchers at this point and don’t have a bunch on the injured list makes me think starting pitcher should be their second priority at the deadline. Along with being the first…
  12. Unless Vaughn Grissom shows up healthy.
  13. Yes, but only if the player also had, say, 8 Gold Gloves…
  14. Anderson gets credited with a save in a 7-0 game in which the opposing team got 4 hits…
  15. Until you remember this game https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/OAK/OAK202307180.shtml
  16. The only season in his career in which Wong had a reverse split was in 2022, when lefties dominated him for all of 18 plate appearances…
  17. Having lived in Worcester, I can tell you there is nothing cool about it…
  18. My goal is to stop that in its tracks!!
  19. I’m thinking more like: C -Wong 1b - Casas 2b - Drury. Or a platoon with Hamilton (vs RHP)/Ibanez or Gonzalez (vs LHP) SS - Rafaela 3b - Devers LF - O’Neill CF - Duran RF - Abreu (Refsnyder vs LHP) DH - Yoshida (Canha vs LHP)
  20. I said it earlier. RF in a platoon with Abreu
  21. No reverse platoon split if you look at 2024 by itself. But there is one if you look at his career numbers…
  22. Team has been around since 1903. Is 2014 really too far back? I mean, Iglesias is still playing. Not like I went for guys already in Cooperstown…
  23. Wingenter reportedly has some seriously envious metrics on his slider. I believe it has a 50% whiff rate. If so, he might be worth a shot. His main problem these last few years has been a slew of injuries. So it probably won’t be an extended look…
  24. Because 2b is a clear weakness? And this is not a new problem. It’s possible a Hamilton/Gonzalez platoon might fix it, but it’s easy to doubt. Drury is having severe offensive issues this year, which bothers me. The under-the-radar guy is Andy Ibanez, who is actually tied for 17th for all MLB second basemen in fWAR since the start of 2023. He plays less than 50% of the time, but is still better than nearly 50% of all starters? Sounds solid to me. Of course the big issue is will his game translate to full time? He is CRUSHING LHP this year (1.017 OPS), and is that inflating him? His horrific .317 OPS vs RHP appears to be the product of a ridiculously small sample size. So if 2b is an issue (and it is) - Drury and hope for the bounce back? Ibanez and hope his game translates? Or Hamilton/ Gonzalez, and stay with the boring status quo internal solution platoon?
  25. For a while during the Cherington years, the Sox had Moncada, Javier Guerra, Jose Iglesias, and a few others who eventually didn’t pan out. Is this new lot really better?
