  1. And we traded Verdugo to get some pitchers…
  2. It’s not like he was trying out for anything…
  3. Pitchers covering first isnt really range; it’s being aware. A pitcher has a much shorter run than a hitter - by a good ten yards. A catcher with a good headlock is a nice have…
  4. Absolutely. Kike did NOT have a weak arm. But he also less accuracy than my NCAA bracket. And he may have been the worse Red Sox shortstop since Julio Lugo. Story won’t win a Gold Glove, but if healthy he should be ok. With the exception of catcher and pitcher, I would say range supersedes arm strength at every defensive position…
  5. Those other teams also had 4-5 months to offer Moore and Ottavino minor league deals, and still didn’t. Plus does either one have an opt out? If so, best to keep pitching until that date…
  6. Fulmer has no opt out. So no urgency to add him to the 40 man. He’ll be back at some point…
  7. What does that trade do for the Angels other than make them older and more expensive? I don’t get the logic that Bloom should have been fired for signing Yoshida, but Anaheim should clearly trade one of their best young players for him…
  8. Swanson by far. Dansby’s arm is so weak he can’t even throw a tantrum….
  9. Ah Monterrey. I worked there for a while. Basically a city in the desert surrounded by mountains…
  10. To keep pitching?
  11. Mayer at 2b is an admission he’s a stopgap. Mayer at SS and Story at 2b is the superior defensive alignment. Of course they might not want to revisit the Devers Drama in pushing a vet out of position to accommodate a newcomer. But maybe it encourages Story to opt out after the season…
  12. Dansby Swanson won consecutive Gold Gloves despite having one of the weakest - if not the absolute weakest - arm of any MLB shortstop…
  13. Robertson is over 40 years old and in his long career, has only pitched in two World Series, winning only one. And even back then in 2009, he was watching some other random guy get saves. It wouldn’t surprise me if Robertson wanted the opportunity to close for a legitimate title contender. At this point, he can either retire as a very wealthy man or, more likely, wait for injuries to open up his dream job. Think Boston fits these requirements? Assuming I’m right, of course. Boston does have one huge advantage should they approach Robertson - he and his family live in Barrington, Rhode Island…
  14. And name that catcher!
  15. For a pitcher throwing 80-120 pitches at 85-100mph, you’re pribably right. But most SS only get 400-500 assists per season, or less than 4 per game. While those aren’t the only throws they make, the workload is clearly substantially less, even when accounting for a starting pitcher taking 4 games off…
  16. I suggested a Story/Sean Murphy swap a while back. With Story short arming his throws and Murphy already injured, it looks bleak. But if Atlanta hotshot rookie catcher Drake Baldwin gets off to a good start and Story gets back in the groove, it’s not a crazy idea…
  17. By the end of 2025, the Sox bullpen will have a lights out core of Slaten, Whitlock, Fitts, and Guerrero…
  18. Chapman closed games the end of last year after the Pirates finally decided to have Dave Bednar put to sleep…
  19. The extra year of control isnt the only reason teams do not start prospects. Sometimes they just don’t have the same level of faith in them fans do. Sometimes they simply do not want to delete depth somewhere by DFAing someone of the 40 man roster. And sometimes they actually like the current starter, too…
  20. Atlanta seemed to be miracle workers last year. It’s pretty unusual to see a veteran pitcher finish a single season with more WAR than he had in the previous 5 seasons combined. Sale wasn’t even the only pitcher on the Braves to accomplish that last season…
  21. Zavala is a good catcher if you focus on defense. Sabol is DFA material, probably first man off the roster if the Sox keep one of their prospects and don’t have anyone heading to the 60 day IL. As for Wong in the OF, he’s an emergency candidate only, I assume…
  22. Wong was in the Dodger system at the same time as Will Smith, Keibert Ruiz, and Diego Amaya. The Dodgers used him at 2b, 3b and corner OF, just because of that depth…
  23. He’s not. Youre overestimating him. Last year, he had a .697 OPS and a 92 OPS+, lower than Dominic Smith. He’s did only have a .316 BABIP, which, with his speed, could be improved upon. But while he had his moments, he also had long stretches of not hitting. And his 25% K rate / 7% BB rate leaves lots of room for improvement. Especially that BB rate, since it was usually double that in the minors. He’s not useless. But he is a role player….
  24. Go through a few lists and see for yourself. You see players like Jesus Montero in the top ten multiple times, while Albert Pujols and Mookie Betts never cracked the top 40…
  25. He is for now. Long term I’m not convinced he’s much more than a utility infielder, but I also don’t think he’s a long term fixture at 2b. At some point, I think the Sox might want Grissom to make himself known. But for now, he’s probably heading to Worcester for a bit. Where he and Campbell play is TBD…
