  1. Disagree. When someone points out "these players make too much," I don't get the counterargument "would you rather the money go to the owners?" Absolutely!!!! The owners are going to be the ones providing my entertainment during down years. How many players are going to do that? Id also rather see owners buy their own stadiums instead of begging for tax money ( unless the stadium is public). A free agent might help the team for a few years. Or he might hurt the team. But either way, many of them become insanely wealthy regardless of help or hindrance, and none of them will use that wealth for my (and your) entertainment. ..
  2. Good point. That does help his case.
  3. But for how many years?
  4. So you think the Red Sox would be better off dealing Chris Sale for Charlie Morton?
  5. In that scenario, how much does signing two players with qualifying offers affect the Sox next draft?
  6. The Sox can control neither of those, but they can influence the first one...
  7. Its disturbing because he hasn't done anything. It's one thing to have Martinez/Morrison held up by a slow market. But what is it about the market that's preventing him from talking to his own players?
  8. Like I said, the problem is DD hasn't even started the process. I don't know how long a contract extension takes to negotiate - maybe minutes, maybe months - but that he hasn't even called his agent to say "I'd like to work something out" is the disturbing part. Unless he prefer Pomeranz walk after 2018..
  9. I'm feeling it - LoMo and Arrieta in 2018...
  10. I think I prefer Arrieta. He's the only one of the 4 to never miss a season due to arm surgery, right?
  11. hey I've been calling for the Sox to move on for a week now. I think of you as late to the game there. Come with me to the LoMo Train.
  12. Sadly, I am starting to find it easier to believe every day. I think his daily reminders from his Outlook Planner pop up and say "9AM - Call Scott. Verify status quo" "10AM to 5PM - Surf internet. See what other GMs are doing."
  13. So.. why not at least start the process? I don't care when Pomeranz signs, but it's the complete lack of action that is troublesome. It's like Dombrowski fears calling Pomeranz' agent because he doesn't want to tie up the line in case Boras is trying to get through. (Hint - Dave. That's not how phones work any more.)
  14. The money is a big part of the reason every player wants to be where they are...
  15. From taht article Drellich also tweets that although left-hander Drew Pomeranz is open to a long-term extension with the Red Sox, the two sides have not discussed one to date. The 29-year-old southpaw made 32 starts for Boston in 2017, pitching 173 2/3 innings of 3.32 ERA baseball. He’s set to become a free agent at the end of the season. I think this is what is the most frustrating. Let the Martinez negotiations drag out as long as it takes one way or the other. But that this whole thing has put EVERYTHING else on hold? I'm beginning to think that not only can DD not multitask, he can't even task all that well...
  16. Edited it for you. Now if I made this my signature, would it upset you again?
  17. It's frustrating because it's January 20th and the most significant addition to last year's roster is probably some guy named Esteban Quiroz...
  18. I like Darvish but how far should anyone go for a 31yo pitcher whose already had two arm surgeries?
  19. I was there a week ago. Chant it with me - NoMo Kong! LoMo Now!! NoMo Kong! LoMo Now!! NoMo Kong! LoMo Now!! ..
  20. It's probably both. They were hoping for, say, 6-7 years in the $150-180 mill range and therefore asked for 7 years $210, giving them some room to "cave in" on while hopefully settling at the goal price. But this market appears to be nowhere near that goal price...
  21. This might be the only leverage Boras and Martinez have. But it's pretty empty. I'm almost certain no high profile Boras client has ever gone to Japan. ..
  22. I am not so sure it's that simple. As a man who negotiates for a living, it's a safe bet Boras doesn't actually ask for what he wants, as that would weaken his position, having nothing to give up. He presumably has a figure in mind, and then asks for X% more, giving him some wiggle room to accommodate both sides. The question then becomes - what is that X%? That number ultimately comes from Martinez, who is the guy with the actual right to approve or reject any offer. Just because he is taking Boras' advice (which he is paying handsomely for) doesn't change this.
  23. Its funny how we all blame Boras as if Martinez isn't equally culpable. Boras isn't doing anything Martinez doesn't approve of. And he hired Boras for exactly the things Scott is doing. ..
  24. Players sign contracts they're not happy with all the time, simply because it's the best offer. If Martinez was looking for $200mill and his offers top out at $125mill, he isn't going too not sign, and it doesn't make him happy. Right now the talk ia the red sox are "bidding against themselves". Is that what's going on? Our are they closing the gap in an effort to appease Martinez as much as possible?
  25. At some point you do want the player to be happy with his contract. ..
