  1. The biggest issue with wrestling is once you get above the college level, it becomes very difficult to follow. The most popular version at a professional level is more show business than sport....
  2. Doesn't racing alone seal the deal? I think most races held outside of county fairs and rural festivals are sports....
  3. Im here for you. I really wanted to keep Gnip Gnop in there because its funnier. But alas, not so timeless. I work with a Canadian fellow who insists any activity where players or teams take turns (football, baseball) are "games" but a sport is an activity where the ball is out there for everyone, like (primarily) hockey, but also like in basketball, soccer, and of course foosball and quiddage...
  4. While I agree auto racing id a sport, trying to defend it as one by highlighting the physical stresses involved does make me laugh. You have to be in pretty good shape to survive basic training. But that doesn't make it a sport...
  5. Well, my goal was to simply disprove your definition, not to create a comprehensive list. My original post included Gnip Gnop, which fit your definition of a sport but I felt might be too obscure of a reference for some of the younger readers.
  6. Playing a different position doesn't make him a prospect more likely to break out. And really, with the exception of home runs, could the numbers for Devers and Longhi be any closer? When Longhi does hit his power stroke, he could easily catch or surpass Devers...
  7. II think golf is a sport. I just think it's an awful one. It's on the very short list of sports I have no desire to either watch or play. Golf and auto racing. That's the list...
  8. By your logic, foosball and jacks are sports...
  9. If Wright is too inconsistent for you, how is Pomeranz acceptable?
  10. I don't think Pablo was a factor here. The Red Sox traded Moncada because there was absolutely no way to get Sale without giving up at least one of Moncada or Benintendi. If the White Sox wanted Devers at all, and they might have, he clearly wasm't a "must have," as they were willing to take Kopech and/or Basabe instead. In fact, Devers still doesn't impress me much. I just can't get excited over anyone in A ball. Let's se how he does this year in AA. Personally, I have more faith in Longhi this year...
  11. It was a pretty dumb trade to begin with. Granted, it was done with 2017/2018 in mind, but his inexperience as a starter really didn't make him an ideal candidate at the present, let alone going forward...
  12. I'd like to see either Pomeranz in the bullpen (where you can never have too much help) or Rodriguez in AAA. I don't see why most people are so down on Steven Wright in the rotation...
  13. So then we release Abad, who won't be earing his money anyway, and call up Robby Scott. And we get better on 3 roster spots. See how easy this is...
  14. I trade Buchholz for Smith before signing Moreland any day. But while I don't like the Moreland solution over a few other alternatives, I really can't sit here and pretend this particular choice of stopgap lefty bat is going to be the death nail of the 2017 season...
  15. There was chatter about Pomeranz moving to the pen to reduce his IP workload and clear up the logjam. ..
  16. As a wise man once said "baseball is the best sport because you don't have to be in shape to play." Undoubtedly he was watching John Kruk or Pete Incaviglia or Cecil Fielder or.... at the time...
  17. Agree. AS is the most important level. All the lesser players from the multiple levels of A ball have been weeded out. And AAA isn't really so much for development anymore, as the average age is usually over 27 and the teams are loaded eith ex-major leaguers on minor leaguedeals serving as depth.
  18. Coffee. No cream. No sugar. If I can go 86 years without a World Series, I can handle the occasional bitterness in my morning beverage. ..
  19. They do make up heights and weights, but everyone does that to the point where I wonder if it's stipulated in contracts. I've seen Pedroia listed as 5'10". Sure he is...
  20. Let's let Benintendi get hurt a couple times before he gets the fragile label. If he goes down, the options are unimpressive. Most likely a Holt/Young platoon. The outfield at Pawtucket doesn't provide much on the way of depth. The Sox could bring back Rusney Castillo, whose battled injuries himself and has a prohibitive salary. But that isn't likely due to the luxury tax. It's a shame because he might be their best outfielder in AAA. Although that isn't saying much given the other options are Allen Craig and Junior Lake. So ... Holt/Young if any outfielder goes down. Not exciting...
  21. I'd be surprised if the Sox tradef for Abreu, who opted out of his contract to receive arbitration and would severely cut into the luxury tax wiggle room. He would be an awesome addition. I also think Moreland will lose his job and Sam Travis will be playing first base by August....
  22. I wouldn't say Romo stinks, but he certainly gets hurt alot. I'd pass too. I'm ok with pen upgrades, But that will probably mean getting rid of Hembree and Abad, so these guys have a certain bat they have to teach to justify the money. Not that it is a high bar. I'd rather see some league deals for depth right now. ..
  23. Agree on Abad. It was a stupid trade from the word go. We gave up a minor league pitcher with options and released Tommy Layne in order to acquire a more expensive version of Tommy Layne.
  24. I don't think of Storen as a missed opportunity. He may or may not be an upgrade over Hembree, who would likely have been waived at some point if Storen was signed. However the Diamondbacks signed Rubby De La Rosa to a minor league deal. That was more of a missed opportunity. Not that I have great expectations for De La Rosa, but I would expect him to be an improvement over Owens and Johnson...
