Cueto is owed like $92million over the next 4 seasons and is coming off a season where he had a 4.52ERA in a National League pitcher's park. No way he opts out and no way is he worth trading for. The Sox shouldn't even trade Rusney Castillo for him straight up. ...

Based on what? Hope? Or are you saying that Martinez will struggle to maintain an .800 OPS after 3 years? The latter point is probably true and the entire point I wss making. Martinez is a short term answer thst requires a long term commitment. And also likely requires breaking up one of the biggest strengths on this team. Let him sign elsewhere...

JD is the headliner bat on the market. But he's the type of hitter that whoever signs will regret and try to trade in 3 or 4 years. He soon turns 31 years old, basically the same age Hanley Ramirez was when he signed in Boston. Prior to Boston, Hanley had a better career than JD. He came here for fewer years and less money than JD wants. And most fans want his shorter deal gone already, to the point where many advocate signing Lucas Duda or Logan Morrison in order to steal playing time and stop Hanley's option from vesting...

Right. Because eye witness testimony is so reliable. So please tell me how watching Bogaerts 162 times and no other shortstop for more than 3 consecutive games should lead one to conclude Bogaerts is average or above average or below average? How many times did you see Cain and Buxton (whose name you didn't even know) before you decided they were clearly inferior to Bradley defensively?

Sign Santana. Maybe fill in the blanks in the 7-10 starting pitcher spots somehow. Hopefully stop taking stupid 1980's style suggestions like "Get a left-handed reliever." I'm OK with a lefty reliever. But not one who is only acquired because he is left-handed. Get a stopgap 2B in case Hernandez isn't ready or doesn't live up to the task.

Dyson? Defensive CF is not something the Sox need. Despite Dojii's comps, Dyson is basically Rusney Castillo (1.4 fWAR in roughly 1/2 a season). Pay Dyson the project $12mill and the two are interchangeable...

Agree, which is why I don't want him. Also per MLB Network today, Boras has set the price at $200 mill. I'd just assume go get Stanton, who is far better and has about the same health track record. ..

I'd agree with 8 names on that list, but it's littered with too many guys who simply are not starting shortstops, including Javier Baez, who was listed twice. ..

Devers winning a Gold Glove seems like a stretch, and isn't even the biggest stretch. Holt is an awful defensive 2b. To be blunt, he's an awful defensive infielder. Hanley was passable at first, but might be physically unable to handle the position very often. Martinez at first is as unknown as it gets. And really, if he sees himself as an outfielder, might be a deal breaker. Wherever he goes is his choice....

Maybe he's anticipating the Sox acquire Stanton. With a lot of the other big spenders reportedly trying to get under the luxury tax limit with next off-season in mind, maybe now is the time for the Sox to make their major splash?

His ceiling is based on his bat, which won't change at 3b or 1b. Do you think the Sox are a better team with Devers at 3b and Hosmer/Morrison/Alonso/Duda at 1b? Or with Moustakas at 3b and Devers at 1b? Or with Devers at 3b and Ramirez/Martinez at 1b? This alignment might possibly create the worst defensive infield in MLB, when you figure we won't have Pedroia right away and Bogaerts at shortstop. We'd be average to below at all four positions. Plenty of young 3b have moved to 1b. It's not an unprecedented move.

Just use Brock Holt as a fourth outfielder. . If for no other reason that maybe they can stop using him as an infielder. .

Moustakas has posted negative defensive numbers ONE TIME in his MLB career. He's a very good defensive third baseman Devers isn't. Why do you think moving Devers to first is a bad idea?

Thr Sox should just use Rusney Castillo as their fourth outfielder. He's already in the budget, and the only change is he would count against the luxury tax, which DD said would not be an issue this year. Castillo is a very capable defensive outfielder when he doesn't injure himself. And if the Sox ever want to divest themselves of his deal, he needs to do something in MLB. Because even if he hit .750 with 60HRs at Pawtucket (which he won't), no one would still touch that contract. ..

Devers isn't a better fielder thsn Moustakas. The idea of signing Moustakas and moving Devers to first, while probably not likely, makes more sense than signing Hosmer or Morrison. Morrison, along with Duda and Alonso, should probably be avoided if they aren't dirt cheap. Players who have that one career year perfectly timed with free agency often immediately revert to mediocrity after cashing a few hefty pay checks...
