  1. That game was made by PCA, whose speed and base running induced multiple Giant infielders into committing errors…
  2. Is the injury risk greater at 1b than 3b? I have no idea. The biggest risk at both is runners. At 1b, they step on your foot or run into you. At third they often slide into you with spikes up, albeit less often. Sure DH is less. But in 2-3 weeks, there’s a good chance a Toro/Gonzalez platoon fails to dazzle, to put it mildly. Having all those players rotate in and out of DH to stay fresh is no different than platooning utility players at 1b. Plus it ignores the real reason Cora “rests” players - to give the bench players occasional action instead of letting them atrophy on the pine. DH is a position. Fill it properly. It’s not for days off for starters any more than the closer role should be for resting starting pitchers…
  3. I don’t know either of Cora or Devers. But if we go by the track records of questionable behavior, Cora far and away is the leader…
  4. Why with another team? Besides Boston right now, what team is scrambling for DH/1b types?
  5. Answer to what? Dalbec should consider switching to pitching at this point. Being DFAd by one of the worst teams in MLB history is not good resume fodder…
  6. I suppose it is possible that Devers was asked and expressed no interest in moving to 1b. So Cora decided to publicly take the blame. That’s one thing. But if Cora himself is making this call, it’s beyond highly questionable…
  7. Will the trade market in early May have better options than Abraham Toro? Right now the best options via trade appear to be Rowdy Tellez, Josh Bell, and LaMonte Wade Jr. The Sox might have to tough out the Toro/Gonzalez plan until mid/late July. Which begs the painfully obvious question - why is Cora averse to putting Devers back in the field? It’s kind of the obvious solution here…
  8. Trade Wilyer Abreu for Tyler Soderstrom. The Athletics have former C/1b/DH Tyler Soderstrom miscast in LF, because Shea Langeliers, Nick Kurtz, and Brent Rooker have taken over the other 3 roles respectively…
  9. They should add Grandal. Sabol couldn’t catch COVID if he licked every door knob in 2020…
  10. Even Sox pitching legend Dom Smith and former All Star Garrett Cooper were part timers…
  11. Better move him to the 15 day IL stat!
  12. Grissom is RHH as well. Why bother platooning? Grandal is at least a switch hitter, albeit one who best part of his game is his glove. Why not Devers at 1b and activate Yoshidato DH?
  13. Maybe Toro is just here to buy time for Devers to get up to speed at 1b?
  14. Dont they have to add Toro?
  15. If it’s a platoon, why would the RHH Romy Gonzalez face RHP? Toro is a switch hitter…
  16. Trade for what? Its still amazing to me how many fans think a player isn’t good enough to start, but is good enough to be a useful trade piece…
  17. Ignoring practical applications and keeping it hypothetical with ONE choice…
  18. Yes. If you believe spending = winning, then it’s not justifiable to the sport to allow unequal levels of spending that can ruin competition. What do you prefer in a front office? The ability to assess talent and recognize underutilized players around the league in order keep a semi-constant pipeline of players coming to Fenway as needed, whether they’re prospects or free agents? Or the ability to negotiate better TV deals and find new revenue streams?
  19. Grandal has played 1b. He doesn’t hit like he used to and defense at catcher is still his best skill. I like Campbell (1b), Story (2b), Mayer (SS). But I can see why they don’t do it, too. Devers to 1b makes sense too but won’t happen. I also agree with Dave Cameron; there’s no such thing as a “natural position.”
  20. Neither Bregman nor Campbell have ever played 1b. Of the two, the 6’3” Campbell makes more sense than the 5’10” Bregman. Campbell’s 44 innings at 3b don’t even register in comparison to Bregman…
  21. The certainty of their $2 billion dollar Fox TV deal certainly helped…
