No. Leon is a journeyman catcher who had one good season at the plate. Anything he can be dealt for has its equivalent on the free agent market, and not the expensive side, either. Leon has very little trade value. He can be traded, but likely only for another player with very little trade value. ...

Oakland is actually fairly likely to sign a 1B, just not a pricey one. Cleveland could go either way, but are not so likely to cheap out the way you predict. Also don't leave out the Mets and the Angels to the list of suitors (and non-tender candidate CJ Cron to the list of available free agents)...

He's already had the surgery. Reportedyly it did not fail. And while it is unlikely (re: illegal) any doctor will discuss the presence of arthritis in the knee join with the press, that's no surprise since professional athletes have surgeries with much less criteria. So far all we have heard is the return date is in May. While he probably won't come back that soon, this talk of retirement and career-ending arthritis is clearly premature...

Ummm... don't you have that backwards? Farrell overused Sale when the Sox needed to win down the stretch. And that overuse likely cost Sale the Cy Young. I'm fairly certain this means it was for a team goal over a personal goal. But I can see your complaint, if you prefer Cy Young winners over AL East winners....

Because when you simply extend players on your current roster, fans think of that as simply status quo. And if it didn't work last year. It's when thou go outside roster and spend heavily on proven star big name talent that they get excited.

I'd rather have Ramirez than Shields. I don't think the more expensive Castillo is much of an enticement for the Chisox to dump Shield's salary..

I like Stanton over most of the other options available, But apparently the Marlins want actual quality in return. The Sox might have to get creative to make anything happen here. Hopefully they don't give up on Benintendi so quickly and instead move one of the shorter term guys like Bradley, Bogaerts, or Kimbrel.

If Stanton comes to Boston, he is opting out. He'd be here for three years and then try to get back to the west coast, possibly with an MVP under his belt and at the route old age of 30. The length of his contract isn't going to be a factor here. ...

Posting fees were blind bids. The Sox had no idea what anyone else had submitted. The "bidding against yourself" angle is usually overstated by fans. The best example in recent years was Chris Davis, whom no one wanted, until Baltimore stepped in with a crazy 8 year $168 mill offer. Sure they could have gotten him cheaper, but they also wanted him playing for a contract he was happy with. No one wants a guy who is unhappy with his deal. ARod's crazy deal with New York also had significant PR implications. Reportedly the Yankees wanted him in pinstripes when he brought the all time home run title back to the Bronx. Imagine the campaign there. But a lot of that had to be abandoned when he confessed to steroid usage. ..
