Of course they could use some MLB talent to either trade or to get actual trade bait. Kimbrel leaps to mind. The Sox have other experienced closers (Smith, Thornburg). Kimbrel only has one year left anyway. And if two months of Aroldis Chapman is worth Gleyber Torres, Billy McMillan, Adam Warren and more, what is a full year of Kimbrel worth? I'm talking to you, Jeff Luhnow...

Something similar has reportedly been offered. At least it was Bradley plus. Not sure about Travis. He adds little but Bradley is a good piece. The big problem for the Sox is Hahn probably won't trade Abreu until he hears the Cardinals offer. And the Cardinals won't make one until Stanton is dealt elsewhere. But if Stanton goes to the Bay, does a Bradley/Travis offer top a package of Cardinal prospects? They have some good ones....

So he thinks Bradley is a bad idea despite the likelihood of many parts of the rebuild being in place next year, but also seems to think Brentz, Beeks, Lin and Travis are intriguing pieces for the White Sox?

The Sox need to deal some of their borderline 40 man players to Atlanta for international slot money. No on e else will deal slot money with Ohtani in play and a chance at the Atlanta farm refugees available. Except Atlanta, who cannot re-sign them. Then if/when Ohtani goes elsewhere, sign the Braves former prospects with their own money...

For what? Travis is not exactly one of the most sought after prospects in baseball and his lack of power is no secret. Anyone needing a 1b can find better options in this free agent market. ..

Belt and Bradley match up nicely talent wise. But Belt's contract coupled with his history of concussions should be a deal breaker...

So I guess you won't be answering my question. I've seen Brentz play plenty of times. He's a corner outfielder with no shot at handling CF. He does have a good arm, but that is where his MLB skill set ends. As a fourth OF he probably won't bring down this team. But if there is a need for him to play for an extended time, the Sox best hope is he can maintain the luck he had over his first 90 plate appearances. That he struggled for 4 full seasons in AAA, partially due to a couple injuries, doesn't and shouldn't lead anyone to believe he can make rapid adjustments to MLB pitching. I think he makes the opening day roster. I don't think he will stay on it all year unless the outfield stays very healthy. Right now his biggest skill is the willingness to work for MLB minimum wage. Did you ever see anything different in Brentz?

But he won't. His MLB career consists of about 90 plate appearances toover 3 seasons carried by an insanely unsustainable .416 BABIP in the face of a .301 xBABIP. With normal luck, his .287 career batting average would plummet to .218. That's less impressive for even a fourth OF profile, especially one limited to playing corner spots. The Sox would actually be better bringing in Peter Bourjos if that small sample is indicative...

Exactly. I liked a lot about Cherington, but I don't think it's right to pawn his mistakes off on Lucchino. LL spent decades in MLB front offices and probably had a very good idea of what he was doing, and it smacks of favoritism to simply pawn off every mistake on him as a method of defending Cherington. Cherington did a lot of good he deserves credit for, but he also needs to take his share of blame..

This year? Not at all. Did he suddenly learn defense as well as offense? How many times did you see him play?

Or.... this was a continuation of a700's initial thought that "most of the farm was fertilizer" when it was one of the best in the league. Kopech was definitely a knucklehead. But he and many others were always good prospects and part of a great farm..

I actually never saw you do that. I'm not saying you didn't. But I never saw it. Outside of Moreland, I was probably less critical than you in that case. I thought a big reason the offense took a step back was a plan to promote the pitching. And if Price was healthy, I think that plan would have been more evident. So I didn't fault him so much there...

I think Martinez might be better suited for Fenway than Stanton. Stanton is like a better version of vintage Matt Kemp at the plate. He hits the ball VERY HARD and sometimes it simply doesn't have any lift. While I don't think Stanton would struggle at Fenway, I do think he'd hit a lot of wall ball singles that would carry out of other parks. Martinez, on the other hand, can get some lift on his flyballs...

This dedication to Brentz baffles me. Yes he was great in AAA last year finally . How many years will he take to figure out MLB pitching? If he was at least a defensively gifted outfielder. ..

Actually my criticism of DD is he does everything short term and doesn't try to get a steady stream of MLB talent in the pipeline like Scherholz did and Cherington was trying to do. Yes he can get you to the table a few times, but it can also have a very poor showing afterwards, like Detroit (worst record in the AL last year with a high payroll built on his contracts). If/when Boston has a similar funk, I trust you will be as disparaging of Dombrowski as you are of Cherington. Otherwise THAT would be hypocritical...
