  1. Neither of those contracts were for 28yo reigning MVPs who were signed to show fans the team was serious about baseball as a show of good faith. Do you think Cabrerea's contract represents current market value for a 35yo 1b?
  2. Its December 16. The season ended over 10 weeks ago. At this point, I'm opening up to the idea of an overpay because at least it would mean Dombrowski made a move!!! I don't get his plan. "Money and the luxury tax are not obstacles this year." So why did you settle on Brentz and Hernandez again?
  3. So the best way was to trade away the contract that was a show of good faith to the fans? The fans who buy tickets and watch local broadcasts? It was like saying "Hey Marlins fans? Remember when we gutted this team before but we wanted to show you we were serious about baseball so we gave Stanton that megacontract? Well... f*** you." That franchise will be out of Florida within 3 years. Any fans they have left visiting fans....
  4. And I have decreasing confidence in Marco Hernandez, whose maximum batted ball distance fell into the bottom five of all major leaguers with 40 or more plate appearances. That is especially disheartening when you realize how many pitchers get 40 or more plate appearances. ...
  5. Maybe. But we haven't seen Bogaerts at 3B since 2013. I'm all about making as few re-arrangements as possible...
  6. JD is likely going to the OF. Benintendi would play either RF or CF. If the idea is to have a backup for those player, Duda isn't going to do it. The Sox need someone who can play the OF. Fortuantely, we have AAARP member Bryce Brentz to do that job!! Maybe the Sox should consider a reserve OF with some batting skills, and not Lucas Duda. Sure it can be someone capable of handling 1b (Jay Bruce? John Jaso?) Finding someone who can also play CF makes it difficult, although one guy with surprising power and elite CF defensive skills who is on no one's radar and would make an excellent backup OF who could in a pinch serve as a part time DH option is Franklin "Death to Flying Things" Gutierrez...
  7. There's no real competive market for any 3B beyond Moustakas. Even the creative solution (Cozart) is off the table. Teams looking for a 1B have to decide between mulitple options and price ranges. Teams looking for a 3B have to decide how close to Moutakas' agent's demands do they want to come?
  8. The simpler re-arrangement is just to bump Bogaerts directly to 1B. It's not as if he likes 3B anyway.
  9. His numbers vs RHP were held back by a shoulder injury. If he's healthy, let him hit.
  10. Moustakas will sign long before all of those guys.
  11. Yes, he could have gotten hurt. But they were limited to one team to trade him to. Better off keeping him. Considering he only named LCS teams, he would have likely expanded his preferences if other teams were in the picture in July. Are you really going to play games with the contract figure? When A-Rod got dealt, a contract like that looked crazy and ominous. Now, it's market value. Two players should easily top that figure next season, and by a lot. Stanton makes close to $30mill per. What do you think Betts is going to get in 3 years?
  12. If the Red Sox are truly all in to win in yhe next two seasons, they aren't and shouldn't muck about playing games with Hanley's option. Either he hits well enough to play or he doesn't and gets benched for someone better. Considering all the money they're paying guys not on the team, why is Hanley such a huge concern?
  13. Possible. Bradley is easily worth Abreu in a trade, with the only stumbling block being whether or not Hahn wants a player who only has 3 arb years left. Reportedly he balked at this offer once already this off-season. If that is the case, deal Bradley for prospects or younger players (Cubs? Guardians? Giants?) and send them to the White Sox...
  14. Maybe if we can fracture it more we can take the American League!!
  15. Yeah that would be as stupid as saying Rick Porcello pitched barely above replacement level last year in one post and then praising Chase Headley as a 2.0 fWAR coup for the Padres in another. (Hint: It's only hypocritical because Porcello had more fWAR than Headley last year.)
  16. Not if we don't rearrange the OF....
  17. Bradley is a very, very good outfielder. But the sillier part of this post is thinking how any fan overhyping or overrating has anything to do woth not getting Stanton. Seriously?
  18. Good luck hitting anything through the left side of that infield...
  19. Over the last 2 seasons, Porcello has been worth 7.1 fWAR and Cole worth only 5.6. Considering that Porcello skipped most of the minors and did a lot of his development work in the majors, he's been a remarkably consistent pitcher over his career. His 2016 does stand out, but so does Cole's 2017 as a career year. And for as young as Cole is, Porcello is only 21 months older, which isn't much considering he has 4 more full seasons of MLB experience...
  20. Isn't that what they are now? They dealt two of their 3 best players and got two minor league pitchers, only one of whom is remotely MLB-ready. They could have waited to deal Stanton in July. They would pay only one half his salary this year, and Stanton might have expanded his acceptable teams. It's not like his list had any thought in it; all he did was name the four teams that played in the LCS last year. By rushing the whole process, the Marlins let Stanton dictate everything and they dealt a reigning MVP for less prospects than it takes to get a half of a season of a closer...
  21. Santana does some things better than Moreland? Yes, just a couple - hit, field and run the bases. Don't get caught up in home runs; they aren't everything...
  22. And it would be two actual moves. Of course Martinez wants to play OF and has no desire to DH (per rotoworld), so we would have to deal Bradley. Hopefully he can be dealt for a 1B better than Moreland. It would be ba better hitting team but a worse fielding team. ..
  23. Yeah let's bring back Moreland. Meet the new Sox. Same as the old Sox...
  24. It is a cautionary tale about the status quo. ..
  25. The 2014 Red Sox were basically the same team that won the WSCmonths earlier. Yet 2014 wasn't a wild card season. ..
