  1. That's another possibility. Just a less likely one...
  2. Supplying data as support isn't the same as simply countering with opinions. Countering with observations and supporting logic is another matter. ..
  3. That's a very flawed counterargument. "It hasn't been proven so therefore it's bogus." It's not like traditional lineup construction has been proven. If Cora had been drawing lineups out of a hat, would the Sox be sco ring more, less or the same? While personally I do think lineups matter, I'm willing to bet the standard style lineup construction we all learned growing up isn't nearly as optimized as we think. The logic behind it appears very flawed in many cases...
  4. Yes. Swihart should be a much bigger addition than JD Martinez. ..
  5. Wow. It didn't take long at all to get to the " we're winning but not by enough" complaints. What happens if the changes don't work in the first game?

  7. You do realize that I agree wIth you and he is going to be in Boston. I never said he was opting out. In fact, I don't even think a market mis-read is likely at this point, given how everything played out this past off-season. Price 's agent is likely to advise him to stay even if he wins the Cy Young. No one is going to give him that amount of money at his age and with questions around his elbow. So, since we all know he isn't opting out to get a bigger and better deal, and his agent isn't going to advise it and cost his client tens of millions of dollars, what chances does that leave - as miniscule as they might be - that Price opts out? If you had to select the most likely reason Price exercises that clause, what do you think it would be?
  8. Hardly. Actually I like getting into the sabermetric arguments with people who pull some information out of nowhere and educate me on the subject. It is difficult to be likewise educated (although not impossible) by someone who belIeves their observations are the end all be all
  9. Again. Second best reliever one season ago. This year, only two innings pitched. Relax. He well get significantly better. He well NEVER be perfect. And I think for Some that might be the minimum expectation. ...
  10. Can you name one veteran backup catcher who was ever traded for a young AA power-hitting prospect? Guys like Leon typically via waiver claim. ..
  11. It's not "nonsense". It's just very unlikely. It is a true statement that the ONLY CHANCE he leaves Boston is of he wants to leave the city. The point here is that he certainly won't be doing it to get more money, since we all agree that is not going to happen period. The "whine and trade" scenario is provaly more likely to happen but less likely to work. Since no one will take that contract, and hopefully Dombrowski isn't stupid enough to pay him to pitch elsewhere. (And getting a good return is also not likely in this case. ) So does this lead to phantom DL stints like Sandoval got?
  12. What was so shaky about Smith yesterday? He faced 3 hitters. One hit, one k. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not shaky. ..
  13. So KC is going to swing a desperation trade for a catcher in order to compete, but in the process trade away their best starter?
  14. I expect Price to be here for 7 years. But part of me does really hope he bails after his year.
  15. It is amazing that it only took one inning this year to completely give up on the pitcher with the second lowest WHIP from the Sox bullpen last season...
  16. Dombrowski made a deal to get himself a new data plan. Enjoy your games sitting a top the Monster at Sprint Park...
  17. Solid point, although I think Barnes is more experienced than Smith...
  18. Didn't Grigorius bat cleanup against Cleveland in the ALDS last year? Was it a mistake when he homered twice of the Cy Young winner in game seven of thst series?
  19. Wow. Only 3 games in and only one inning where Sox pitching has allowed more than 1 run, and already NINE PAGES worth of posts second-guessing Cora. Somewhere, John Farrell is laughing....
  20. Sort of the point. Price isn't getting the same money anywhere else. So the only chance of him opting out is if he values leaving Boston more than money. Certainly he can try to get out other ways, like demanding a trade (which actually is very unlikely to work). But the only way he opts out at this point is poor of desperation. I don't expect it to happen. ..
  21. If Price opts out, it will be because he desperately wants out of Boston. He isn't getting a better deal at his age with question marks surrounding his elbow. None of us had any idea if he desperately wants out of Boston. ....
  22. I think it is very important that the entire bullpen be evaluated by one inning.
  23. That's why God invented the DVR...
  24. Really? I'm not exactly dazzled by Benintendi in left field, let alone center. I know he played center in college, but that was then. Plenty of guys don't play their college position in the majors, which was why Tim Wakefield nevet played first and Jon Olerud never pitched. .
  25. Is that mostly because their Florida fans never see them in the March, since the Cubs typically play all their ST games in Arizona?
