  1. The Sox absolutely needed another bat. But when JD plays RF over Mookie (on those rest days), the difference just becomes beyond obvious. The game in Toronto gave a pretty good example there, where Smoak hit a soft liner to right field to move a runner to third. Even if Mookie was unable to catch that ball (which I doubt but can't prove), at the very least the runner would have had to hold up enough to make sure and would not have been able to go to third....
  2. Who? Do we really have bullpens full of pitchers who complain about getting 4 outs and getting saves?
  3. Fair point. But I think the argument about specific roles might still be applicable to Eckersley and O'Brien. ..
  4. I think the overwhelming majority of manner decisions ate betteR than many fans realize, since these decisions get made with knowledge fans don't have. It's not just a matter of "good baseball sense / bad baseball sense" that many fans think it is. I do think hindsight becomes the basis for more managerial criticisms than you think. But sometimes that hindsight is accompanied by some sort of rationalization to mask it's true nature...
  5. Of the 10 teams to make the post-season in 2017, three of them fired their managers. Of the 20 teams that failed to make the post-season in 2017, three of them fired their managers. Not winning at the right time might be more critical than anything else....
  6. It's one thing to not like his style. It's another to say he's incompetent he does things different than you would. You're the first I've seen to criticize Farrell solely for not liking his style. I think that's a much more honest statement, and I can see myself agreeing with it a lot of times as well...
  7. While I agree, it's also true that Francona and Farrell err bith repeatedly criticized for similar (non-)moves multiple times. In fact, I bet we have both seen each of them repeatedly accused of not knowing how to run a bullpen, and accused by people who honestly have no idea how to run a bullpen. ..
  8. Terrible example that comes closer to disproving your point. Bill Cosby was doing his heinous acts for decades and we all knew nothing about it and plenty of people loved him, including me and very likely you (assuming you're old enough). It wasn't until YEARS LATER when the lawsuits started pulling up we realized who we were revering. ..
  9. Eck is irrelevant here. It's just more potential ammunition for dumping a player solely for offensive reasons. The fact that Bradley apologized and he and Eck made up was omitted from the attack on Bradley's character. Why? Well it counters it by showing good character traits and it did nothing for his batting average. Why people are so afraid to say "I don't like players who don't hit well" is beyond me...
  10. It's defensible on the small sample size and team record. But it's exactly the type of thing Francona and Farrell have been crucified for in the past.
  11. It's amazing that if any Sox player doesn't genuflect in front of Eckersley, someone who likely doesn't know the whole story has to leap into calling this out as a massive team-killing character flaw. Was Eck really that loved? (Hint: No. If JBJ was putting up an OPS over 1.000, this guy would let Bradley stick pins in little Dennis Eckersley dolls just to have fun watching Eck writhe in pain.)
  12. While true, bear in mind this Jays team has a little more depth coming up from below than we've seen them have in the past. And quite a few of them with familiar names like Biggio, Bichette and Vlad Guerrero...
  13. I might be the only one who has noticed this judging by the bulk of the comments, but Cora's MO looks like he intentionally gives players the day off before an off day, probably too double the rest. I also wonder if the unreasonable cold most of the country had been experiencing was a factor. I do question leaving Price in for so long today, but those games happen. ...
  14. When you start insisting the team bunt and steal home more, you're calling for overmanaging. The Sox do Need to execute properly and the fans need to accept the reality that the Sox are going to lose two games in a row once in a while. ...
  15. What happened before that? What happened in the clubhouse? Did Pedroia say "don't go after Machado" but Barnes didn't listen? Not to mention, how does anyone know how his teammates felt about it? Are they talking about it in press articles I'm not reading?
  16. Right. When you lose two games in a row - panic and change everything! !! Start overmanaging! !!
  17. I think people are probably making way too big of a deal of that incident without knowing the whole story.
  18. I've tried so many different ways to catch games since I moved to Illinois. When I first moved out here, WEEI allowed free streaming of games. But with bandwidth limitations what they were, I found it faster to get updates on the message boards at ESPN. So I created a name (notin) and logged in for quick updates. Now I find MLB.tv a much better option. I probably stream about 100 to 120 games. (Although rarely the first innings, which I listen to on satellite radio on my drive home.) Depends on how busy I am. If the Sox are not on, I do watch Cubs or White Sox games.
  19. The Sox are 6-3 in games started by Sale and Price. 11-0 in games started by anyone else. The are 1-2 in games where Sale pitches 6 or more innings. 2-0 when Sale throws less than 6 innings. ( The less Sale the better? ) For those who think pitcher wins matter. ..
  20. Reportedly Rice hated coming up the same year as Lynn and allegedly accused the Sox of holding him back a year until the white kid who could equal/overshadow him was ready...
  21. So players get old between 30 and 34? (wink wink)? Glad qwe could pin that down...
  22. His agent isn't going to struggle to find stats that support a massive paycheck...
  23. They don't extend them all. But if you could extend one and only one from Bradley, Bogaerts and Porcello, who would it be?
  24. Zobrist would be a massive waste of money and whatever it took to complete the deal. If Pedroia has health issues, the Sox get more time out of the guy replacing him now. Don't you all think Pedro's knee was a huge factor in re-signing Nunez?
  25. Does he really? I think too many people get caught up in some instances as if they know everything about them. We're all working with incomplete information. If you don't like players with any sort of questionable history, Chris Sale has a fat more checkered past than Pedroia. Is fake working out for you?
