  1. But I think there is some truth to Dombrowski not really being the drafter and talent evaluator in the same class as some of our recent GMs...
  2. I think he was being sarcastic...
  3. They managed to trade Fielder. Now the Miguel Cabrera contract on the other hand...
  4. Supposedly Buchholz is still having health issues. Someone posted he was not able to pass a physical, which would not be surprising and explain why he has not received a minor league deal from anyone yet...
  5. I don't think guys like Marrero and Hembree carry a world of trade value, And dealing Hembree might create a Boggs in the pen, although not a huge one. The guy whose trade value might be piquing right now is Swihart, and as of now he is a bench option. If the Sox are going to make a move to bolster pitching and create a roster spot, Swihart would be the easiest to move and certainly get back a better player than Marrero would. Not sure who would be available for Swihart. Certainly not Chris Archer or equivalent. So it comes down to who helps the overall team more: Swihart? Our a pitcher who can be acquired for Swihart (and ancillary pieces)?
  6. No. But I can guarantee there will be more healthy arms from the set of Lackey, Dickey (or whoever), Beeks, Elias, and Velasquez than from the set of Beeks, Elias and Velasquez alone. ...
  7. Bob Melvin was a backup catcher for the Sox in 1993...
  8. for Some guys will want incentives. Some will want out dates. And for some players, that is a reason not to sign them. But some won't. Our some incentives are worth putting in the contract. It's not about taking chances away from the players you mentioned (by the way, Velasquez was once signed to the exact type of minor league deal I am pushing for here.) It's alt having more depth and more options. Can you guarantee Johnson or Velasquez will be healthy when we need them?
  9. But who was better in September?
  10. You can't count on Doug Fister bring available every summer. But you can count on Steve Ontiveros being available. ..
  11. Based on what? Why would or be such a bad idea to let them earn their shot over Lackey or Dickey or ....?
  12. I will blame him of this team is hit by a rash of pitching injuries and the Sox miss the playoffs because key games down the stretch were started by some AAAA pitcher who didn't belong in the majors. ..
  13. Well they did win 155 games in the two years before he got there and then 98 in his first two seasons as GM...
  14. They said different things...
  15. Even if he thinks that, he can't tell the future. The Sox are already down two starting pitchers. They have two more with potential elbow issues. Does anyone really think it's wise to limit the depth to these three guys? What happens if one or two of them go down? Given how little time the Sox Might have Sale for and a few othet players, want the logic supposed to be to go all in? Does all in mean pennant hopes can rely on Jalen Beeks and Roenis Elias?
  16. Guilty. But in my defense this off-season was intolerably slow
  17. Rusney's biggest selling has been his defense in his brief time in the majors. But his contract makes him tough to Move wIthout taking back someone also making money, Erich in turn threatens to put the Sox over the limit for the next penalty. ..
  18. Brett Anderson was worth 0.8 fWAR in a mere 55 innings. Of course talent was never the problem with Anderson. That he only threw 55 innings last year and shouldn't be expected for more is the problem. ..
  19. Did you just lump the 2015 NL Cy Young winner in with the garbage?
  20. Another classic is former Mets minor leaguer Esix Snead, whose name sounds like it came straight from a Dr Seuss book...
  21. Not if Martinez and Price opt out. Sure you can point out it's unlikely Price opts out, but it is still possible. Certainly not probable but definitely possible. Martinez is certainly more likely. And if Smith or Thornburg or another replaces Kimbrel, that eliminates that need. It's actually possible that within two years, the Sox shed almost $120 mill in payroll. Although that number more likely is either about $63million or about $85mill, depending on Martinez. Especially if he wants to go somewhere where he can play the outfield. That would leave the Sox needing a few players, but if this off-season is any indication, they might be cheaper to replace. ..
  22. Does he also know they will be healthy all year? The idea is depth here. To cover injuries. The more the better ...
  23. I've called him out for inaction when it comes to getting pitching depth. But in my defense, he hasn't gotten any. In fact his DFA of Ben Taylor has arguably depleted the pitching depth. I did very frustrated with the JD Martinez saga, but I blamed Martinez for that and not Dombrowski. ..
  24. The post he responded to actually disagreed with the accusation that DD had no plan. But the reality is, the Sox might end up $40million over the Luxury Tax limit and, if things break wrong, might miss the post - season in the process. And it would be stupid to do so because DD refused to get any depth. And blaming Cherington doesn't change the budget or the need for depth. ..
