  1. I'm all for extending Bradley, never mind trading him. ..
  2. Given the Sox roster, Martinez should play LF add little as possible. And the team should absolutely not trade Bradley just to get JD into the outfield. Now if something useful can be had for Bradley, that could potentially be another situation altogether. ...
  3. A lot of could be rust. He signed late and missed a big chunk of spring training and since has pent most of the season as a DH....
  4. But he was choking a puppy when he said it...
  5. Chip Hale
  6. What about weather names? J.T. Snow Josh Fogg Chuck Rainey
  7. And it was also fodder for a very funny SNL sketch with Horatio Saenz as Zimmer...
  8. Hobson was one of the worst, along with Joe Kerrigan, who clearly found his niche in life as pitching coach. But a massively overrated manager might have been Don Zimmer, who forced the hand of upper management to trade away players he couldn't control. I know pitching was valued less than hitting in 1978, but how on Earth do you ever justify trading a starting pitcher for a utility infielder? The Bagwell/Anderson deal is one of the most overrated in Sox history, simply because dealing Lee for Stan Papi was the dumbest trade ever. Zimmer should have been fired instead....
  9. Cora has managed this team for 3 weeks. How is he even in the argument yet? He's managed this team for less time than Torey Lovullo...
  10. DD hasn't done anything wrong for the short term team, except maybe the Price contract. And that contract might have mad more sense if Price stayed healthy every year before he opt out. Even the Shaw/Thornburg trade made sense and looked like a "sell high" moment for Shaw. I did think Espinoza for Pomeranz was a bad idea, but I was clearly wrong about that one. I don't agree with some of his non-moves (as I have repeatedly stated), but there is no arguing with the way this team is going right now...
  11. The Sox traded Lowire to get Mark Melancon. The Sox then traded Melancon to get Brock Holt. Holt is 4 years younger than Lowrie, and until last year, was the better player. Lowrie is not the one that got away...
  12. There will be slumps and slow stretches. Making them worthy of being among the greatest teams of all time might be a bit premature. But I think I can say I haven't seen any team start like this since 1984...
  13. Why? Is there something about this team that needs changing? The Sox have scored the most runs in MLB, are hitting for the highest average in MLB, have the second lowest ERA in MLB, and have committed the fewest errors on MLB. Any reason for hindsight-based improvements?
  14. I liked the Crawford signing. The guy was coming off an MVP year. Hated the Sandoval signing from the first rumor...
  15. Steven Pearce, Pedro Alvarez, Yan Gomes, Anthony Desclafini
  16. Many of these players weren't actually drafted. A trickier exercise might be too find the best team of active players drafted by Boston, and it could include those who didn't sign (like, say, Brandon Belt)...
  17. I think the concerns are unfounded...
  18. Bryan Holaday to the rescue!!!
  19. Noe Ramirez is off to a terrific start for the Angels...
  20. Well, if he is in front of Shaw, we will never see Travis...
  21. But is hearing the harsh realities necessary to having a winning attitude? This isn't about whether Eck was right or wrong. Your supposition was that Price was a poison to the team's winning attitude. While Price might be a very unpleasant human being, is he really so toxic? Is he an issue at all? The Sox have been immensely successful since he arrived. Is that a coincidence? Would the Sox, coming off back to back last place finishes, been the same, better, or worse without him? That last part is obviously subjective and conjecture. But do you see where I'm going here?
  22. Farrell tried to do it, but Sale cut up his own cleats...
  23. At some point. for whatever reason, the fact that a posse joined in with him might be interpreted that Eck is not all that wildly popular among Sox players. You might get the nicest impression about him on NESN, but do you ever wonder why that posse joined in once Eck was off camera? I don't know any of those answers either. But I do think the question needs to be asked. I do disagree that Price is cultivating a culture that is "not in line with a winning attitude", as you put it. The Sox have won the AL East twice in two seasons since he got here and are off to a terrific start this year. What is it about this team that doesn't scream "winning attitude"? Is it all the winning?
  24. Sometimes it's also not so much about resting one guy as it is keeping another one ready...
