  1. I was in one in London once. A classmate and I staged one where we loudly argued over which nuclear physicist made more significant contributions to the field. We upended a yelled at each other about Lawrence vs. Rutherford, upended a table, which spilled some drinks and broke the glasses, and quickly ran like Hell out of there (laughing the whole way). Ah, drunken geek humor....
  2. I'd like to see Hanley's contract rewritten to state that if Hanley gets 497 plate appearances, Price opts out...
  3. That's not so bad if you can fool Jessica Alba...
  4. Once healthy, Pedroia will play. Lin will get demoted. There will be injuries. Lin will return. It's a good problem to have....
  5. Fewest wins for a Cy Young pitcher is 2 (Eric Gagne, 2003). Plenty of pitchers have on the award with fewer than 10 wins. All of them have been closers. For a starting pitcher, the fewest wins is 13 (Felix Hernandez, 2010)...
  6. Morrison also has a fairly less productive track record. One season only gets you so far...
  7. Yeah why would we want a hitter like that in our lineup?
  8. C'mon, accountant!!!! You can do better!!! Kelly was suspended for 117% of his games of while Austin lost only 50% of his!! Beung serious, the 5 game suspension for a position player and 6 game suspension for a pitcher are pretty standard...
  9. And of course that is how it will play out, which is very common when players do not land on the DL. I think watching any punk player slide like that in a game when his team is leading makes it even worse. But then this is one of many reasons I will never be tapped top be an MLB manager. ..
  10. I think they are going to have to ley Kimbrel walk. Look what Wade Davis got this year. Undoubtedly that is Kimbrel's floor. The remaining closers on the market are certainly less exciting, but even if the Sox downgrade to Cody Allen or Kelvin Herrera, it won't make this team any worse. I'd rather see Pomeranz back in the rotation and AJ Ramos closing games than Kimbrel closing and Steven Wright or Brian Johnson in the rotation...
  11. I hope they drill Austin again, and I rarely advocate for head-hunting. Maybe it's because he's a Yankee or maybe because its too early in the season for those type of slide. Maybe both. Next time I hope Barnes does it, since losing him for 6 games seems like even less of a penalty. If Barnes gets it together, have Hembree drill Austin....
  12. And Bogaerts is on pace to injure 14 ankles, if paces mean anything right now...
  13. Harvey Keitel, Pulp Fiction
  14. It is certainly possible for a team to win a post-season series without every player hitting. ...
  15. After a week and a half, 18 players in MLB with qualified plate appearances have a lower OPS than Bradley, including Anthony Rizzo, Francisco Linor, Evan Longoria, and Gary Sanchez. I think we can agree this is nothing more than a slow start and all of these players will get their hitting up to or close to their expected level....
  16. HanRam is also on pace the play against the Rays and Marlins 128 times....
  17. This is a pitching/defense team. If they get swept in the playoffs again, the sole reason is unlikely to be due to a poor offensive showing from their GG-caliber defender who bats ninth..
  18. While his career numbers are certainly not enticing, Benintendi's OPS vs LHP this year is based on 11 plate appearances (8 ABs). I'd be very hesitant to make any judgments on that sample or take away his opportunities to develop that skill...
  19. Yet you still argue physics with engineers?
  20. Very poor man's. Phillips was an OBP machine...
  21. Bad idea. Because JBJ would actually catch Bullwinkle and Rocky, just like he does everything else. ..
  22. Does that mean you'd hang up on me too?
  23. Exactly. Bradley isn't the best Sox CF ever and isn't the best defensive CF in baseball, or even in the AL East. But he is the best all around option for this team and starts in their best lineup. Whether you like his streaky hitting or not, this team is 8-1 when he isn't hitting. Imagine how good they can be when he is...
  24. But a replacement for Bradley was what the post was about, specifically a replacement for Bradley if he performed at a certain level. The Sox best lineup right now features Bradley in CF. I don't see why people want to bench him in order to get more plate appearances for Mitch Moreland, who is barely a better hitter, all while weakening the team defensively in two outfield positions (but upgrading 1b defense).
