    Even if MLB changed the rule that merely touching third base counts as a run, it wasn’t enough. I think Benjamin Franklin summed it up perfectly. “There are three certainties in life.     San Diego was paring salary last year. If they just took Story, that might be enough. Plus San Diego might be able to use him; they seem to love moving shortstops off-position.

Every year he’s the one constant in another .500-ish season, and every season he gets bailed out by a litany of excuses. Maybe it’s time something stuck to Teflon Alex…

    How come no one talks about Schiraldi as an obvious double agent? Think about it. (Or better yet, don’t.). Before the season, the Sox acquired him from the Mets. Than he gets a blown save at a very key moment against the Mets. And who goes on to win the title? The Mets! Coincidence? I mean, that actually would explain it. But how fun is that?

    Young started and ended that streak in the rotation, but a big chunk in the middle was spent as the Mets’ closer, so he came into the game with leads and would get credited with either saves or losses…

    That’s not possible. After one blown save, he’d have been in line for the win. The only way that could happen is if the pitcher blew a save, was moved to another position, his team retook the lead while someone else was on the mound (and in line for the win), and he was brought in to pitch again. I have never heard of this happening…

    I find it amusing when pitchers are credited with blown saves before the sixth inning, which does happen . Think about what has to happen there…

    The record goes to Rangers RHP Wes Littleton, who was awarded a save in a game Texas won 30-3. Littleton had to have ice water in his veins in order to go a full hour without giving up a week’s worth of runs..

    The 3 inning save is the most ridiculous. Earlier this year, Cooper Criswell came in for the 7th inning of a game the Sox were leading 16-2. Criswell pitched 3 innings and allowed FIVE RUNS to score, finished the game, and was awarded a save. For getting 9 outs without giving up 14 runs…

    It’s classic Toro. The Lawnmower Man has always shown himself capable of the occasional hot streak. I wouldn’t mind if he stuck over Hamilton on their teams bench, but you really don’t want this guy getting 400 PA per season…
