  1. Theo Epstein signed all the much bigger and equally awful contracts that Cherington unloaded and he somehow found another job. Most GMs hake bad moves. I don't think it is the career killer many think it is...
  2. If it was only so easy to unload the players you name. Maybe Hembree can be traded. But Pomeranz and Nunez? Really the Sox shoud probably get a bullpen arm. (30yo Ryan Brasier is not likely to hold this pace.) And a 2B who is an upgrade over Brock Holt might be the only other acquisition thought. If the player isn't an upgrade over Holt, why bother trading for him?
  3. Huh? He's had 75 plate appearances spread out over 10 years. That's hardly an unusually high amount. He has only played in 5 post-season series. Have you checked out the performance of Justin Verlander through his first 5 post-season series? Post-season stats are usually worth ignoring for the exact reasons I stated earlier...
  4. Dombrowaki has won a WS. Just not with Boston...
  5. To be fair, Bailey and Hanrahan got hurt. If nothing else, when it comes to acquiring injured closets, both GMs have a lot in common...
  6. Maybe because they didn’t command seven year deals? If you sign one and he flops, let him walk...
  7. I thought it was a 2 year deal, but pending free agency increases the likelihood he is available. His knees may be an issue. I don’t worry about post-season stats. They typically represent small sample sizes spread out over a number of years. One good series can take them from sub-par to excellent...
  8. You’re both being irrational. But mvp was more well-rounded...
  9. Not that I am a huge fan, but wasn’t Masterson the best starting pitcher on a playoff team only 2 years before returning to Boston?
  10. But maybe another Josh Reddick?
  11. Based on what? What exactly has happened to any of them to say they have already peaked? The most MLB experience so far is Manny Margot. Are you assuming after 885 plate appearances at the age of 23, he isn't going to get any better?
  12. The time to get Scooter Gennett was last February, when the Brewers released him. The Reds have no reason to let him go cheaply right now, especially considering he is under contract for another year and getting paid peanuts and cracker jacks...
  13. Thoughts on Asdrubal Cabrera? He might be a better player than LeMahieu, and is signed for another year. The Mets do have an abundance of middle infielders and plenty of other needs...
  14. Boras is 65 with a reported net worth of $100million. He might retire before then ::fingers crossed::
  15. Bravo on the Game of Thrones references...
  16. But outside of Peavy, how did you think the other four would do in 2014? After all, Lackey did pitch well after 2013. And runs of crazy success were nothing new for Buchholz..
  17. His track record, for one..,
  18. Jim Hendry and I disagree. So does Chuck LaMar...
  19. Well we had Ruben Amaro Jr as a first base coach. That is a big step down. VP of Baseball Ops isn’t so bad
  20. Ever seen Dombrowski’s first 4 years in Detroit? The team averaged about 60 wins per season. Does that mean he did a horrible job too? Or should we take into account what he was taking over? Cherington took over a team that quit on the manager and owner. He had talent but he also had a lot of attitude problems. His first season was a last place one, but isn’t his reset button trade a huge factor there? He managed to unload some horrific contracts, one of which I believe is still current. Then he won a World Series one year later. In 2014, the same team that won the Series came in last. While expecting a repeat was probably too much, did anyone expect last place? I expected at the very least that that team should have been competitive.
  21. And per some reports, Dombrowski wanted to keep Cherington, very possibly in that same capacity...
  22. Well, suspected peak value, anyway.
  23. Speculation? Or real story? I hope you’re out teasing me here...
  24. Was that due to having weak pitching or good pitchers underperforming? The 2014 staff won a World Series one year previous and still had Lester and Lackey...
  25. It’s revisionist history that Cherington was fired and revisionist that he is a coffee boy. He’s a VP of Baseball Operations, a job neither of us is qualified for. And speculative that he couldn’t get another GM job because no team would trust him with their payroll. However, it is unfair of me to reply this way without acknowledging that this particular post is your most even-handed and fair assessment of the entire situation...
