  1. Go Brewers!! And if the Sox can take a 3 games to none lead, game 4 tickets should be cheap and readily available. A 3-1 lead does the same thing for game 5...
  2. No Chick Stahl? The guy committed suicide during Spring Training. In some stories, he left a note that said "Boys, I just couldn't help it. It drove me to it." which has been interpreted to say that Stahl was referring to cutting his friend and Hall of Famer Jimmy Collins. Other versions detail the note as saying "You drove me to it boys," indicating his team's poor play pushed him over the edge. (Reportedly his team players stopped him from committing suicide on at least one previous occasion.) Either way, THAT is a dedicated manager!!!
  3. Famous last words. THe Brewers and Dodgers are both better than some fans give them credit for being...
  4. Tito was the Sox manager for 8 years and won 2 rings and had to deal with Manny Ramirez. Cora has yet to conclude his first season. It's not fair to take how it ended for Francona as the sole reason to rank one season of Cora ahead of him. The wheels will come off for Cora one day, too...
  5. MLB is historically slow and cautious when it comes to embracing smart changes. But at least they have no problem barreling ahead full bore with stupid ones...
  6. Well all managers are not created equal. They're just better at managing baseball teams that most fans admit. Personally, maybe its just me. But Francona is still ahead of Cora. However, that there is an argument there is an immense compliment to Cora...
  7. I'm flattered you need authorized documentation for proof Farrell is smarter than me about baseball. But he is. In fact, he's smarter than most fans give him credit for. Most know it. Few admit it. I'm one of the few...
  8. He has never played the position at any level since he played it for 2 games in Rookie Ball in 2009, unlike Ortiz who played the position at every level to some degree. While Martinez could probably handle the position, is the World Series really the time to be trying new things? Is THAT really the stage where the Sox should take a chance at learning why he only played the position for 2 games in Rookie Ball nine years ago and then never again?
  9. Actually I think one of the reasons they moved him to CF was because Bradley was struggling heavily in MLB. I think this was also a big factor in signing Rusney Castillo...
  10. The NL does need to get with the times. The only other league in the world that doesn’t use the DH is the Pacific Coast League in Japan. The whole “but there’s different strategies” angle died when pitch counts came on the scene. Step up, National League...
  11. I’d say it. I’ll put it on a tee shirt. But then, dopey me, I actually thought Farrell and Francona were also better baseball minds than me. But only because they were former major leaguers capable of getting MLB manager jobs. Silly, right?
  12. JBJ was an excellent choice for ALCS MVP, but let's not go overboard with his performance at the plate. He was 3 for 15 in the series. after all. He just made the most of his 3 hits. He is the most likely candidate to sit out the games in Milwaukee/Los Angeles. This was the plan in most of the interleague games, and the World Series is not the time to try experimenting. He is the number 9 hitter in this lineup already. And Cora is not going to play him simply because he won the ALCS MVP, just like how Cora benched Brock Holt the day after he because the player in MLB history to hit for the cycle...
  13. If they keep pulling him after one hitter, he actually could start every game for them...
  14. And it’s just as easy to point out Betts was just inches away from a bases clearing double that would have made Bregman’s at-bat a moot point...
  15. The Sox weren’t even the best team in the AL East in 2003 and 2004, if W-L records mean anything....
  16. It is possible (and hopefully unlikely) they sell high on Bradley. But I’m not so sure about Castillo. Dombrowski attended Castillo’s tryout and reportedly left with the opinion that Castillo was, and I quote, “a fourth outfielder.” Maybe a few years in Pawtucket has changed DD’s opinion. But has it changed it enough to take on the remainder of that contract? I’m doubtful it’s increased that much....
  17. Some players certainly adhere to that code, but some don’t, which is also probable. For example, a couple years ago Scott Van Slyke of the Dodgers publicly talked about how his teammates, notably his friend Clayton Kershaw, were fed up with Yasiel Puig. And I wouldn’t consider it improbable that Pedroia told his teammates NOT to retaliate and escalate the situation, but Barnes did anyway. That’s a story that makes every piece fit, and actually, unlike the popular belief, even explains why Pedroia reacted at all. And that’s just one possibility. Like I aid, I’m at least open to that and other possibilities, and with an equal amount of proof that anyone has for anything else. And by the way, your Kimbrel/unicorn scenario is actually NOT possible...
  18. I’m not sure, and that would certainly depend on the Sox off-season plans. But if a recent comparison can be found for a deal involving a similar player to ERod, that is a good starting point...
  19. Nope. I have nothing except alternative theories that counter the popular but equally unsupported beliefs of others. You know, keep an open mind kind of stuff. My entire stance on this has always been that none of us has the whole story and really, until we do (if ever), any discussion really needs to acknowledge other interpretations. But a lot of people do seem close-minded to the existence of alternative possibilities....
  20. Exactly. I made that same point somewhere on another thread....
  21. Eh. Given Dombrowski’s draft history, is dropping 10 spots really a deterrent? At some point the spending will get cut off. Maybe it is this off-season. But maybe not...
  22. We have a GM who likes trading, no farm system to trade from, and the possibility of multiple needs. There are certainly reasons to keep ERod, but I do doubt he is untouchable and could be dealt for the right price...
  23. The idea of trading one player to replace him with a more expensive free agent? I wouldn’t be surprised if DD traded Bogaerts and signed Machado. If he did try to deal for Machado last off-season, presumably there was also a plan to extend him. This move doesn’t appear that it would be very popular with a lot of Sox fans, and maybe, like a lot of people, DD has soured on Machado since then. Or maybe not...
  24. Reggie Williams. What sport hasn’t had a Reggie Williams?
  25. While we wax on this postseason season to date, I think special mention needs to go to handing the Yankees their worst loss in postseason history and doing so on their field in front of their fans. That in itself makes this postseason enjoyable...
