  1. And if we could, why wouldn’t we?
  2. I needed an intro for my statement. Don't look too deep into message boards for the atmosphere. My belly button is puckering and unpuckering with excitement just like everyone else's around here...
  3. Well, some see the glass as half empty. Some see the glass as half full. dgalehouse sees the glass and thinks "this could use a refill."
  4. We are nervous because the Astros series hasn't been the only one with tense moments. Remember game 4 against NY?
  5. Oh yea. Bring 'em down from the inside!!
  6. That level of freeze and rotate requires a lot of cameras. You need a visual from each angle rotated to...
  7. I just can't find the original post about football. I thought maybe it was him bringing up Roethlisberger as an athlete he didn't want to root for...
  8. Maybe he needs that? The dude is all over the place...
  9. The original plan was to make it into a soup, but I think they scratched the idea because they feared that boiled rawhide might taste better than a lot of the other space age polymers on the menu...
  10. But in a context about sports, which is not the same as bringing personal political views into it...
  11. Then there is no target to pick up....
  12. Or he gets bailed out by someone like Benintendi....
  13. So maybe the Houston papers won't write a story about the fan who interfered giving his name, home address and work address like the Chicago Sun Times did with Steve Barton?
  14. And it all balances out. If the Kemp call was incorrect the other day, the Astros were due to be victimized by a close and understandable call....
  15. How does Kimbrel not pick up his target in the 5 to 7 seconds of what my daughter calls his "crane stance"?
  16. In a sense, yes. I mean if they had a committee of good relievers like Billy Wagner Eric Gagne (the 2003 version), Brendan Donnelly (the 2003 version, including supplements), Damaso Marte, LaTroy Hawkins and John Smoltz, don't you think it might have worked out a lot better?
  17. At the distance pitchers throw, a 99mph fastball is about a foot ahead of a 96mph fastball, which is a big difference to a batter swinging, and could be the difference between hitting a ball up the middle to fouling it off the other way (depending on the hitters bat speed). but if the 99mph pitch is not a strike and the hitter doesn't swing, it doesn't matter. Right now, the Astros' hitters (except Bregman) are content to be patient and let Kimbrel pitch himself into jams...
  18. Do we need a list of players who share names with athletes in other sports?
  19. The one bit of solace I have in this series is that, as bad as Kimbrel has been, the entire Astros bullpen has been far, far worse. So far they have walked in and hit batters with the bases loaded multiple times and given up a crushing grand slam, and were only bailed out from worse damage last night by a diving Web Gem by Josh Reddick...
  20. St Louis Cardinals seem to be even better at it...
  21. Well, it was more like "closer by attrition" with everyone who had the role going down for the season until the Sox finally got to Uehara...
  22. BOOM YES!!! The downfall of that bullpen wasn't the lack of defined roles. It was the over-reliance on mediocre to bad pitchers like Chad Fox, Brandon Lyon, Todd Jones, Ramiro Mendoza, Scott Williamson, and Scott Sauerbeck. Even Alan Embree wasn't all that great in the regular season. The only pitchers with more than 25 appearances and an ERA under 4.00 were Mike Timlin and Byung-Hyun Kim, and Kim wasn't even acquired until the season was 54 games old...
  23. And not for reasons related to football...
  24. It started on Page 4 of this thread. It's been a while...
  25. Just assemble a good bullpen with good releivers with several pitchers capable of closing rather than sticking to one regardless of how ineffective he has become. Kimbrel's been off since the AS break, yet no one else has even gotten a chance at closing...
