    But when it comes to the transipiration of events or the events/things out of a person's control, you're really not dealing with an opinion as much as you are a theory. Because unlike an opinion (or viewpoint), it can bee incorrect. you positied one theory. I posited another, and unlike you, I provided a reason. Whether or not you think Hanley's actions created a universal disturbance in the clubhouse, it either did or did not. When something unknown happens, you don't get to call a theory fact based on whether or not anyone can disprove it, and you don't get to label a theory an opinion just so no one can ever say it's wrong.. The most likely scenario is it created a partial disturbance of unknown size, which as my counter-theory to your theory, because it is easier to get a number smaller than 25 to agree on soemthing that it is to get 25 people to acgree on something. There's a good chance neither of us is right. You just seem less willing to acknowledge this...

    But AZ played almost all of their games without a DH. They didn't play him n RF until they got to an AL park and then suddenly switch him to, say, third base...

    Zero? No. There was zero chance he was going to be on the Red Sox in 2018 because the Sox had very little to offer in a trade. But as a free agent, it all depends on how interested Dombrowski still is and if he cna make the money work. The chances he isn't in Boston are certainly greater than the chances he is, but if past reports are true, DD was certainly a fan at one point and might still be. I think Machado most likely ends up on one of the Chicago teams, who both have clear needs and more money available...

    Yes. I'm ruling it out based on statistics and volume. In fact, I bet even the most dis-likable players in MLB even have people in the clubhouse who like them. I bet the Orioles and Dodgers had/have people who like Manny Machado for more than his baseball abilities. You can't argue against the stat people by saying the games are played by people, and then also argue all those people also all think alike. Even if Hanley was a complete *******, are you really sure he wasn't the only ******* on the Sox? Or that everyone held that opinion of him? Like I said, it's really hard to get 25 people to agree on anything, especially if what you want them to agree on is not the reason you got them together in the first place...

    It's hard to get 25 people to agree on anything. I'm sure some teammates were annoyed with Hanley, some didn't care and some were amused by him. But this can probably be said about everyone on that team. And probably almost anyone on any team...

    Kershaw is defintely hit or miss at this point in the season. He's had good games and bad ones in the NLCS, and his three World Series starts included a terrific 7IP, 1ER outing, a complete clunker (4.2IP, 6ER), and a short rest 4 IP outing in relief where he was pretty good...

    The "ring" argument is a stupid and shallow way to judge any athlete. In Chicago,I've asked tons of times why everyone just assumes Jordan is the best basketball player ever, since there are some pretty legitimate arguments for LeBron and Kobe. But all anyone ever says is "Six rings." Then I have to reply "Then why isn't Bill Russell and his eleven rings in 13 seasons considered the best ever?"

    And it will end when teams start beating it. Maddon didn’t invent the shift, which has been in use for 9 decades in MLB. Sure he popularized it recently but it has come and gone before. Right now this is a swing and miss/all or nothing/strikeout or home run league. As a result, fewer hitters are going the other way or trying to make any contact. This plays into shift usage. When “contact rate” becomes the next buzzword, shifts will decline. And if Manfred legislates a defensive alignment because some fans don’t like it, he should resign. His whole “pace of play” campaign has been laughably bad since all he has to do is enforce existing rules...

    Not only baseball but every sport is based on computed databases. It's funny people like to call out fantasy baseball, but FBB probably has fewer databases and algorthms than MLB. And MLB teams can out their infielders anywhere they want. If they want the shortstop to position himself in section 213 Row C, let them. Maybe MLB should also make a rule where pitchers have to throw the ball where the hitter want s it, too. And to make it easier, throw in underhand. As irrelevant as you think those last two sentences are, prior to 1894, those actually were the rules. But making teams play a certain way has always and always will prevent the game fro evolving. Let the shift run it's course. There is nothing in the rulebook that gives any sort of leverage to the commissioner to ban it, beyond some fans don't like it. But like all fads, it will go away on its own..

    Bellinger is also a strikeout machine and could wind up being completely neutralized this series...

    Well if he didn't do it this year, and he as all the way down to 9th, clearly i was way off base. And hey, there is a chance next year he does do it in Boston...

    I strongly suspected that, unless he was having an MVP year, the chances of Hanley's option vesting were nil. Last March, I did think there was a strong hcance injury played a part, and Hanley would never be physically able to make it an issue. But even if he was healthy, he had no chance. WE all knew it. I didn't expect him to get released, and especially not to accommodate Swihart. But that was proof positive that his option was never gong to vest one way or another, Unless you believe the spontaneous version - the one where out of nowhere they decide to cut the starting 1B so they can keep the third string catcher. In that version, the Sox believe Swihart was important. He has 200 PA, s he clearly wasn't all that important. In my version, they would have cut Hanley to accommodate anyone. And really, the player activated to cut him was Pedroia, who had 13 PAs this year before disappearing back on the DL forever. How ready was Pedroia really?

    No. My point was the option was never going to be allowed to vest unless Hanley unless Hanley was having a monster year. I said so repeatedly on this board all off-season. That he got released just proved it. I really don’t think or hope the decision to release Hanley was as spontaneous as we were all lead to believe. At some point in the meeting, you know someone said “and it takes care of that option we’ve been talking about.” Or maybe it happened the other way. Cora suggested “I know. Let’s cut the starting first baseman so we can keep the third string catcher.” And DD replied “Sure. Why the f*** not?”
