  1. Hernandez has rarely played and even more rarely dazzled. He might not even be on the 40 man roster next year. And in his brief activity with the Sox, he hasn’t done much to merit it. Some of the Stat Cast metrics have placed his exit velocity among the worst in MLB, behind many pitchers with the same number of plate appearances...
  2. If the Sox bring back Pearce, or if they use another RHH 1b platoon player like Travis or Chavis or possibly Dalbec at some point, there may be no room on the 25 man roster for Swihart. And if they let Kimbrel walk, they will very likely look for another closer. If DD continues his Trader Dave ways, Swihart might be part of a package that gets shipped out for a potentially key pen piece. Think they can get a good closer for a package built around Johnson and Swihart? It’s not like the farm has a lot of MLB-ready attractive trade chips. And Leon offers next to nothing in trade value. Catchers like Leon are readily available every year for very little money....
  3. And he doesn’t throw his players under the bus, like Dave Roberts did to Rich Hill...
  4. If the Sox do keep all three, then Pearce doesn’t come back and Chavis and Ockimey are gone as well...
  5. Ok. Thanks. Sorry to bring up a sad story...
  6. Pearce is an interesting one. WS hero and Sox fan, 35 years old and not likely to get a long term deal anywhere. The only issue is, do the Sox need a RH 1b option? If money is an issue, they might save a little by going with Travis and eventually Chavis. Pomeranz does seem like a no-brainer to let walk. But if he returns to form, he also might be the bargain on this free agent class. This guy was a stud as recently as 2017. With Holt and Nunez on this team, the depth Swihart provides might make him more valuable as a trade chip. And unless he becomes the RH 1b option, there may not be enough room to keep him on a 4 man bench. The Sox might already have that entire bench filled with Holt, Nunez, Leon, and Pearce/Travis/Chavis...
  7. The entire point of a trade is to get something good, i.e. something you need. The Sox are much more likely to get a better player for Swihart than they are for Leon...
  8. I do agree that having Holt and Nunez does mitigate the need for a stopgap 2b. I would imagine if the Sox do pursue a 2b, it might be a statement about their knowledge and expectations for Pedroia’s future...
  9. Which is probably why he won’t change his MO...
  10. While true, DD does like big name splash players and Kimbrel was his first major acquisition in Boston...
  11. I think DD brings back Kimbrel. For the rumored money and years, I would prefer he brought back Kelly and looked elsewhere for a closer...
  12. No. Even with his outstanding postseason, no GM is going to give him more money and years with his history of elbow trouble. I think fans view postseason stats very differently than most GMs, and especially stats from one postseason for starting pitchers...
  13. Doubtful all vacancies are filled by spending. We do have a President/GM who likes to make trades. Any of the following (and possibly a few others) might be trade bait to fill those needs: Bobby Dalbec Sam Travis Blake Swihart Brian Johnson Michael Chavis Josh Ockimey Chandler Shepherd Mike Sharwyn Heath Hembree Brandon Workman Not sure what that gets them, but I do expect a deal or two. I do think a reliever or two and a stopgap 2b can be acquired from players in that assortment...
  14. My prediction has always been he ends up in Chicago, where I could see both teams being interested. The White Sox are loaded with young players and really need a superstar to bring it all together (and reportedly tried to acquire him last year). And the Cubs have a lot of money to spend and will soon have a vacancy at shortstop once they unload Addison Russell. Now Addison Russell is a guy I could see the Yankees acquiring...
  15. Out of curiosity, who is that?
  16. Well this is as tradition dictates...
  17. The Dodger 2018 World Series Champs ones are a lot cheaper right now...
  18. Are you waiting for Amazon to deliver your Inflatable Kinsler doll? Yes, the Inflatable Kinsler. Blow it up and it throws itself away...
  19. Just beating moonslav to the punch. But seriously, come tomorrow, TITLE DEFENSE BEGINS!!!
  20. So can we all forgive Ian Kinsler now?
  21. Some us always believed in him
  22. To be fair, he was about them winning 85 games. He just forgot to add the other 34 wins...
  23. The entire point was how well this team is doing, yet with (at the time) a 2-0 lead in the World Series, we still have to question the manager? Is there no pleasing some people?
  24. I had fun needling Cubs’ fans in 2001 when Arizona won it all. “Their fans had to wait four long years for a title.” And “the last time the Cubs won the World Series, Arizona wasn’t even a state.” (This was actually true in 2001.) But I live among these Cub fan freaks...
  25. There is an argument here for the late Dallas Green, GM of the Cubs in 1984 who acquired Rick Sutcliffe (16-1, 2.69 ERA after the trade)...
