  1. J If they deal any of those 3, it’s also possible a reliever or two comes back...
  2. Or the-arranging the furniture. It’s not like they’re dealing them for prospects to bolster the farm. Maybe clearing money for Harper, who’s had surprisingly little interest League wide? Just spitballing...
  3. Or move Sanchez to 1b/DH. They aren’t really going to count on a repeat performance from Luke Voit, are they?
  4. This is important to the Sox as they clearly plan to select Josh Ockimey in the Rule 5 draft...
  5. Especially if they think it should be Andujar straight up for Syndergaard and Castro. Castro is good enough that the Marlins can deal him in another trade. Now if the Yankees took back Wei-Yin Chen, maybe. Prado? Maybe but less likely. But Castro? A lot less appealing. Of course that assumes the Marlins are so desperate to unload Chen or Prado they’d compromise a trade of their best player to do so. But given jow many Realmuto rumors there have been, why would they? Of course none of that stops the real problem of the Mets getting completely sodomized in that deal...
  6. I think dumping cash is the whole idea for the Pirates. I doubt they want anyone back. I like Cervelli as a catcher, but his concussion history should be scary to any GM. The first rumor I saw was Sharwyn for Cervelli, which seems like a no-brained to me. But maybe it wasn’t done because of the multiple injuries to Cervelli’s noggin...
  7. So the Mets are going to trade 3 years of Syndergaard for 2 years of Realmuto? What do you think the logic is here? To get to the bottom faster? If they get Realmuto, they think they’re good enough to win in that timeframe and that doesn’t happen if they deal Thor. The article on MLBTR actually says the Yankees have interest in other Mets’ pitchers as well. Syndergaard might not be the target here. The Yankees might be looking at Wheeler. (I’m sure they already asked about deGrom.)
  8. I do doubt the Marlins deal Realmuto and one year of Castro for Andujar and nothing else. They’ve been asking for much more from other teams, including wanting Soto and Robles from Washington. If merely taking Castro was enough to get them to drop their price, wouldn’t Realmuto and Castro be Nationals by now?
  9. It appears at the very least, based on some level of interest in Cervelli and the source from oldtimer, that they are open to the idea...
  10. I figured catching was up in the air, due to the poor showing the Sox received from the position analytically. The only name mentioned that I’ve seen so far was Francisco Cervelli, which may have happened to some extent, but these types of contact can get reported with more enthusiasm than actually existed. Cervelli seems like a questionable choice. He’s a very good catcher on a short deal that won’t hamstring anything beyond 2019. But his history with concussions is alarming. I haven’t read any other catcher names mentioned in conjunction with the Sox. I do strongly believe they cannot afford Realmuto without doing something drastic and potentially stupid (like swapping Benintendi). As for 2b, it is possible the Sox make a Rule 5 pick for the position, someone like Max Schrock or Kean Wong. That way, if Pedroia is healthy, they simply return the player. No harm, no foul. Given the recent and perfectly timed DFA of Robby Scott, it is a possibility. ( Grabbing a reliever is more likely.) But catcher could get interesting. The goal is likely an offensive upgrade while minimizing defensive subtractions. Not sure who the target is or what it takes to get him. Wilson Ramos is a nice fit, but he will cost and leaves less budget for the bullpen. Yasmani Grandal, who is better defensively than he showed in the postseason, is the cheaper free agent option. But can they afford him while adding relievers.
  11. An extremely confusing non-tender. Part of me hopes the Sox take advantage. But part of me wonders if San Francisco knows something...
  12. Which I said. But his elbow has been rebuilt too many times for guaranteed money in my opinion...
  13. Relief pitcher or infielder. Or best available player from the team that takes Ockimey for the easy trade...
  14. It would probably have to be Devers or Benintendi. And I’m not sure Devers is enough with the scrap heap. Pull the trigger for Beni? I pass...
  15. I I’d be hesitant to give Romo a guaranteed deal. Minor league? Sure, but he can and will do better. But if you sign Romo, you might need a replacement arm. I would spend the extra $5-6mill (estimated) and get Kelly or Miller. And if the estimate are right for Kelly and Miller, the Sox really should go get them both...
  16. Can we wait until Houck and Feltman get a couple innings in AA ball before we anoint them bullpen saviors?
  17. Looks like DD might be planning on a Rule 5 pick...
  18. He is the best at what he does. But pointing fingers at other people who have simply created better evaluation techniques should be beneath him...
  19. So if Baines gets in for having 2,866 hits, does this open the door for Johnny Damon, Bill Buckner and Al Oliver?
  20. Unless there is an injury somewhere, there’s no room for Swihart on the roster. If Pedroia is on the 25 man roster, the four bench spots go to Leon, Pearce, Nunez and Holt. Now if Pedroia starts the year on the DL, maybe Swihart has a chance. So that bait is all but cut...
  21. One of the best control pitchers in MLB. If he took a minor league deal, I'm all for it. He might be looking at MLB offers however...
  22. Sometimes recovery isn’t 100%...
  23. That’s not cherry picking at all. It’s his last two seasons, not 2 of his last 3 or 4. His return to health, on the other hand, is pure speculation. In the case of Buchholz, what exactly is fully healthy?
  24. It’s a little counterintuitive to argue that he’s not dependable on one hand but that he will also get guaranteed money on the other. Buchholz provides no guarantees with regards to availability so I doubt any team provides a guarantee for money. He’s pitched 105 IP combined in the last two seasons, both of which ended in injury. No GM is giving him guaranteed money...
  25. It wouldn’t be incredibly surprising if Clay’s lengthy injury history prevented anyone from offering him a Major League deal.. But if someone does, so be it. I’d love to see the Sox bring him back on a minor league deal, but he will probably have his choice of those...
