  1. I didn’t see these so I duplicated a lot, but these are some good examples...
  2. Kiki also had a good career as a player in the NBA. There are a lot of instances of a father and their child playing different sports. Calvin (football) and Grant (basketball) Hill Mark (football) and Danny (baseball) Schlereth Yannick (tennis) and Joakim (basketball) Noah Ken Sr (boxing) and Ken Jr (football) Norton To name a few. And there are probably as many instances of brothers playing different pro sports, for example Chris (baseball) and Craig (football) James Mark (baseball) and Dan (football) McGwire Nate (football) and Kevin (basketball) Burleson Klay (basketball) and Trayce (baseball) Thompson Matt Tuiasosopo is on both lists. Is he alone there?
  3. Boras doesn’t do anything the players don’t want. His tactics for getting players as much money as possible are so well-known that even we as fans are aware of them. Consequently any player choosing him as their representative is boldly stating to the world he desires that type of service and eventual outcome. Boras works for his clients, not the other way around. He isn’t the problem with baseball. He’s 66 years old, has a net worth of roughly $400milll and may retire any day now. And when he does, some other agent will fill the void he creates. After all, that’s what the players want....
  4. The most common reasons a player refuses an offer is either money or years or both. If the years were the same, that leaves money...
  5. Exactly. I want a guy I can have faith protecting a one run lead in a second and third with one out jam and the 3-4-5 hitters up. Rather than using anyone there and saving my closer for the ninth to face the 6-7-8 hitters...
  6. I was actually (no longer) secretly hoping it would generate some posts about any professional athletes in different sports, ideally seeing if anyone could think of other athletes who played a different sport than a father and brother. But hoping for anything along this line. But if you have a better topic for the General Baseball Forum, have At it...
  7. Up there with Mo see Ta two pooh...
  8. If the Blue Jays even remotely thought Tulowitzki had a 5 win season left in him, he’d still be a Blue Jay. It’s not like he’s blocking Carlos Correa here. I don’t blame the Yankees (or any team) for trying, but my guess is by April, they’ll see what Toronto saw. The big loser in all this is Ronald Torreyes, who is wondering exactly what he did to not get any shot to be Didi’s short term replacement...
  9. Ah yes. The old “If he doesn’t hold the lead I don’t want to see it anyway” philosophy...
  10. Especially if you’re driving. But then you can deny the existence of a bridge and still drive over it. That doesn’t always work so well with cliffs...
  11. The Sox have room for both!!
  12. Don’t say “bridge” on a Red Sox website!!!!
  13. It just makes me wonder what numbers DD was talking about with Robertson. Boston certainly had the geographic advantage over Philadelphia for the Rhode Island resident and reportedly DD was talking about the same years. Or maybe there was no offer. But one would think Robertson would have contacted Dombrowski once he did decide to settle on 2 years...
  14. Exactly what I’ve been saying. The trend the past few years is this is becoming a game of bullpens. With starters averaging about 5 IP, per start, worrying about inning 6 through 8 is becoming more important than focusing solely on the 9th...
  15. None of them can. Elite closers only get $16-18mill AAV. What do Robertson and Familia types really think their value is?
  16. It is looking more possible. If DD is looking for one year deals that won’t affect his ability to reset, the money might not have to be so low...
  17. I had that same operation 5 years ago. Recovery was not bad at all. Just don’t lift anything too heavy...
  18. What about the White Sox fans? Their drought (1917-2005) was longer than the Red Sox but no one ever talked about it or acknowledged it at all...
  19. I’m pretty sure Eovaldi’s role will remain constant throughout the season. And that role will be starting. His lengthy history of arm troubles is going to be enough to overcome without being placed in varying roles. The Sox will find someone to close. Even with Robertson signing today, there are still plenty of closers still on the market, and a few more options can and will emerge via trade, which has always been Dombrowski’s preferred method of acquiring players. He does have a couple extra options in the system - notably Chavis and Dalbec - who can be moved in the right deal and are actually decent trade chips...
  20. I’m not sure why so many people want to see Eovaldi go to the bullpen. The Sox will add a reliever or two at some point. And one of them or Barnes or Brasier will get a shot at closing. The Sox will also have an easier time finding a relief pitcher than a starter in their farm, especially considering the farm will probably already be taxed with replacing Rodriguez during his annual injury...
  21. I He was certainly able to overlook them with Miguel Cabrera...
  22. Familia would have been the guy in that case. But he got away too. Ditto Kelly...
  23. We’ll never know. But with the goal of just clearing the position for another player, it’s tougher to say than with other fictional trade scenarios. If necessary I would have added a minor sweetener like Dalbec. But again, I’m not sure DD never asked about this himself. So it’s not like I’m holding anything against him here...
  24. I would have gone for an upgrade to a full time player who didn’t need an insurance policy. When Philadelphia made Carlos Santana available not to dump salary but to clear 1b for Rhys Hopkins, I would have offered Moreland and Nunez. If they accepted, I upgrade 1b to a full time OBP machine (whose power admittedly is not ideal for Fenway) and clear up the bench logjam for the same cost in the end as signing Pearce. But that’s me. Moreland/Pearce May work out better and I get why the World Series MVP was brought back. And for all I know, maybe DD did make that offer to Philadelphia and got rejected...
  25. I think DD wants a one year closer so he can reset after 2019 if he’s needs to...
