    Playing Encarnacion over Brett Gardner is a huge upgrade. What I don’t get is why a lot of other teams passed. Plenty of teams could use him, and certainly the Yankee offer was easily toppable. While I don’t agree, I see why Boston passed. Money, and DD has a thing for Mitch Moreland. But Houston? Why? Was the salary too much for Tampa and Milwaukee? Maybe neither wanted to offer a good enough prospect to get Seattle to cover more? Why not Texas? They could use him and show the league they have no intention of fading away quietly. The Rockies and the Diamondbacks could have also used him. Imagine EE in Coors! But everyone passed. And no way did DiPoto not do his due diligence and ask. Probably asked other teams, too...

    I’m sure Dipoto talked to all the relevant GMs and everyone passed. You weren’t keeping EE from anyone. He wouldn’t be doing his job if he did anything else. Or the counter argument is that DiPoto had his heart set on a pre-A-ball unranked teenager whose missed the entire season to date. Very specific need. You’re lucky the Yankees had just such a player...

    Sale’s deal was for less money, but he took it to avoid risk. He’s still post prime, and Porcello is the same age. If you think Dombrowski is going to offer a 3 year $45mill deal to Porcello, that deal feels very light compared to the contracts he likes to write. His keyboard doesn’t even have a “$45mill” key...

    It never is, although by moving for a non-closing pending free agent, the cost is typically minimal. Kind of a s***** list this year. Closer Sean Doolittle does check most of the boxes the Sox could use this year...

    In his last 8 outings (7.2 IP), Marcus Walden has a 5.87 ERA and a 1.025 OPSA. And those numbers do NOT include today. Normally, bad stretch, and not a big one. But Marcus Walden is 30 years old and been part of 5 organizations since 2007. At some point, he might just return to being a pumpkin. Or did that happen 9 innings ago?

Not like EE plays his position,and with the possibility of Dtanton and Judge returning soon, it1) an odd time to get EE and 2) likely Frazier was looking at a demotion anyway. The notion the Yankees only acquired him to keep him out of Boston, Houston and Tampa is silly. First of all, you can’t go out acquiring every player that l will help your rivals; they’re too many options. And second, don’t you think Seattle pushed him on the teams with obvious needs? DiPoto has heard of the Astros. He might have even worked for them once. He called. They hung up...
