BTV is using a projection that has him as a 2-2.1 fWAR player. If they have him getting paid $25-26mill in the next two years but only generating $37mill in WAR, there is your surplus value of $11mill.
My guesses had him performing slightly better and getting paid slightly less..
Not really.
In fact, with Crochet, Suarez, Bello, Sandoval, Crawford, Gray and Oviedo, I’m not sure how many of these starting pitchers have options left.
I think Oviedo does..
I could see Paredes surplus value at $17-24mill.
Over the next 2 years, he probably makes $20-23 mill. In that time, he is probably worth 5-5.5 fWAR, valued at about $40-44mill
A mean surplus value of $20.5 seems fair…
Saw him a lot, too, during his brief stay in Chicago.
Dead pull hitter. Has really good power when he pulls the ball.
I thought his defense was nothing special. Hes not bad or anything. Just didn’t excel.
Awful, awful haircut…
I like Hoerner, who is an excellent all around 2b. Breslow, the former Cubs farm director, might have stronger preferences for Massachusetts native Matt Shaw, who was the Cubs first round pick in his final year with the organization…
That’s another option.
Theres not much available for good shortstops on both sides of the ball right now.
My prediction right now thr Sox will wind up with Alec Bohm at 3b. I have mixed emotions there. Most of them are not good…
My silver lining is I can go back to hating Alex Bregman, although he actually did seem to be a pretty positive addition overall. Still, it’s nice to have the option again.
But I’ll probably see him play in person at least half a dozen times this year…
