  1. Having Betts means having how much to spend on pitching?
  2. No. He doesn’t. He might get one by default because the Sox have 5 other pitchers who also don’t deserve to start...
  3. So I’m looking back at some old prospects lists. First one I looks st is the 2013 Fangraphs list, because I don’t have/want a Baseball America subscription. Creepy list. Only 6 years old and three of the top eight prospects are dead!!
  4. It’s not easy to walk Chavis
  5. That’s what I was thinking. Now if Benintendi homers...
  6. My hopes for the 2020 Sox: Hembree - non-tender Bradley - non-tender Wright - non-tender Granted Free Agency Porcello Moreland Pearce Sandoval (in absentia) Cashner Weber Smith Curletta Trades Betts (no other way to rebuild the staff quickly) Price Dalbec
  7. I’m f***ing appalled. I am very much hoping Dombrowski gets fired...
  8. And Sox fans actually don’t. The Sox weren’t expected by many to make the postseason last year. 2013 came out of nowhere. And really, 2007 felt awesome because many of us thought 2004 would be the only one would ever see...
  9. Not his defense? His offense will only be missed for a few weeks a year...
  10. Hitting against Sox pitching is never an accomplishment...
  11. Gonna miss Bradley’s defense...
  12. Pffffft I think that’s about what John Wall makes for every game he misses with a gimpy knee...
  13. Eovaldi?
  14. I don’t think Dombrowski is at fault for the poor performances of the players. But I do think he is absolutely culpable for his complete inactivity this offseason and especially during this season. He has been and still is the proverbial Nero fiddling as Rome burns...
  15. Sure in your Wet Pinstripe Dreams. But it’s possible the spending and deals bring the cliff in. Remember the Yankee farm was pretty bland before dealing two relief pitchers. The Sox can do better by dealing one MVP...
  16. I give more credence to second wild card teams than some of these division winners. The 2006 Cardinals went 83-78, but made the postseason solely because the rest of the NL Central couldn’t even win 83 games. The Cardinals won on the basis of having similar geography to a bunch of shittier teams. They also got lucky in October and won the WS. But because they were the least incompetent team out of 6 (yes, 6 back then) in the NL Central, they were a legitimate postseason team? The Phillies, White Sox, Angels, Blue Jays and Red Sox all won more games than the Cardinals (while playing in divisions with better teams) and missed the playoffs...
  17. Well, this team has been built on starting pitching. And the Sox paid premium prices to add Price and retain Sale. But the Manfred Missile has helped weaken a dependency on starting pitching. Most teams, through economics largely, gravitated towards bullpen games. This did somewhat combat the effects of the ball, since starters rarely saw hitters a third time on other teams...
  18. What about Johnson and Hembree?
  19. To be fair, the main reason Toronto and Baltimore have better records than Boston is they got to play and beat up on Boston...
  20. I have very little expectations for change in 2020. I expect minimal roster turnover (not that overhauls are needed). I expect minimal coaching changes. I even think there’s a good chance the “new” 1b is Mitch Moreland. And I absolutely don’t expect any bullpen acquisitions. I believe it’s time to non-tender Bradley (unless a trade can be worked out prior). I think it might actually be necessary to trade Betts, but that depends on a lot of financial stuff of which I have only cursory knowledge. I also expect neither of those things to happen. I’m not expecting change in 2020. Not in players. Not in staff. And not in the standings...
  21. This is pure speculatation on your part, and very likely wrong. We’re they a “25 man 25 limo team one year ago? If you’re going to try to make an argument that loud-mouthed management is detrimental to team performance, several decades of Steinbrenner-owned Yankees might not be the best supporting argument...
  22. Unless you count Michael Kopech. Also I think a lot of Sox fans have ignored or disrespected Wade Miley, who, outside of a rough time in Baltimore, has been a really good pitcher since leaving Boston...
