  1. Casas is a no-brainer to offer arbitration to, especially if you’re a team that frequently pays SPs $10mill to rehab from TJ for a year. In his only full season, Casas had an .856 OPS with 25HRs. That’s pretty serious potential to skimp $2-3 mill on for a team that currently would be starting Romy Gonzalez at 1b. (Assuming Nate Lowe does get non-tendered, which he should.)
  2. Casas actually isnt the slowest player in MLB, but he got closer to that honor with the retirement of Martin Maldonado. He is in the bottom 10 per StatCast. Not the bottom ten percent. The bottom 10…
  3. Say the off-season unfolds like this: Sox re-sign Bregman and Matz. And sign Josh Bell. Not unrealistic. Sox trade Duran to WS Runnerup Dodgers for C Dalton Rushing and RHP Emmet Sheehan. Sox then send Sheehan and another (Harrison?) to MN for Joe Ryan. (Yes this all works on BTV.) So you have: C: Rushing 1b: Bell 2b: Mayer (or Story) 3b: Bregman SS: Story (or Mayer) LF: Anthony CF: Rafaela RF: Abreu DH: Yoshida ( or Casas if he is actually healthy) BN: Narvaez, Gonzalez, Eaton SP; Crochet, Ryan, Bello, Sandoval, Crawford BP: Chapman, Whitlock, Slaten, Fitts (soxprospects has come around to agreeing with me on him here), Bernardino, Hicks, Matz, Weissert. Still bringing back Wong? Got one bench spot open…
  4. Fair. And they may bring him back like they have many others before. But he was also Bello's primary catcher. Some of us (by which I mean me) think Bello might be a part of a trade himself this off-season...
  5. Susac was a first round pick 3 years ago. He's more likely the heir to catcher for the Athletics than he is blocked by the arbitration-eligible Langeliers. Of the two, the A's probably prefer to move Langeliers, although they could also move him to DH....
  6. Is Wong necessarily better than the Fungibles Free Agent crowd? Wong does have more versatility. But not many teams carrying two catchers value that…
  7. Just because they have bigger needs doesn’t mean they should or will ignore the smaller ones. No one got excited the signing of Abraham Toro last year. Heck I doubt anyone even mentioned it after the day it happened. But Toro played more games at 1b last year than anyone else in a Red Sox uniform (Boston only) on that 89-win playoff team. And Toro certainly had his moments. More of them than Wong, who many want back immediately. Also they already added catching depth on an MiLB deal two days ago…
  8. Maybe they re-investigate Dalton Rushing? I wouldn’t mind Seán Murphy, but so far, I’m the only one connecting them to him. Most likely they bring back Wong or get one of the Fungibles - Nido, Stallings, Haase, etc…
  9. I have serious doubts the Sox plan to spend that kind of money in free agency. If they sign one of Alonso, Bregman, Bichette, that would probably be it. (And it will probably be Bregman.) And Suarez on top of that? Not holding my breath. I think they max out at Bregman and a Bell/Hoskins type…
  10. I think a catcher upgrade is on the Sox radar, but Whats left of Realmuto might not be much of one…
  11. I don’t think Bellinger is a good fit, unless you’re a fan of swings and misses. And he really does make more sense for a team looking for an OF. Most likely the Yankees bring back one of him or Trent Grisham…
  12. If they non-tender him, he’ll shop around for best offers. Maybe he does better than his projected $1.6m. Maybe not. But he’s not some unique talent to get caught up in a bidding war…
  13. They could non-tender him and still re-sign him. Or sign one of those Thomas Nido/Matt Thais/Eric Hasse journeymen. Although they do already have Jason Delay…
  14. Season tickets would cost $5,000,000,000 apiece?
  15. They were 37-36 with Devers and 52-37 without him. Would you be happier with more home runs and fewer wins?
  16. I think bringing back Gio and Bregman would be the LEAST surprising offseason. Most disappointing? Maybe. But certainly not surprising. Heck I’ve been predicting it for 3 weeks now…
  17. No. Weaver was a strong believer in using only a 4 man starting rotation…
  18. And defense, especially for exploiting overly aggressive baserunning…
  19. So either you have forgotten that lineup that had Kinsler, Nunez, Vazquez, Leon and Eovaldi (2 ABs) or you just couldn’t resist taking another potshot at the 2025 Red Sox…
  20. Also coming off a 1.1 bWAR season. So we will see if offers meet his requirements or not…
  21. But there’s also a legitimate question of whether or not Bello (and his contract) is worth more in a trade than he is as a SP…
  22. I think there’s a good argument for Bell over Hoskins. And if he’s looking for a one year prove-it deal, a good argument for Cease over Gallen…
  23. I think Bello is worth more in a trade, since he didn’t miss a season and also has a pretty favorable contract. But for Boston, he’s easily replaced. His 1.9 fWAR in 166 IP seems bearable for Early, who was worth 1.1 fWAR in only 19 IP. Trading Bello opens a spot in the rotation for the sought-after #2 starter, whatever that is. And with Tolle, Dobbins, Harrison, Perales and Fitts the Sox still have decent SP depth even before the season starts…
  24. He threw 28 pitches. Wow do we really like to overanalyze those postseason small samples…
