  1. ... just signed with the Rangers for 3 years / $30mill, which is a step for setting the market price if the Sox want to get a starter via free agency...
  2. While I don’t put Morris in the Hall, I do put him ahead of Jamie Moyer...
  3. It’s not like the Sox have Jimmie Foxx manning first base on the parent club...
  4. San Diego sent top prospect Luis Urias and SP Eric Lauer to Milwaukee for SP Zach Davies and OF (and play-in game goat) Trent Grisham.
  5. Or even a poll - like bigger bust: Crawford or Ellsbury? Looked at that way, Ellsbury wasn’t so bad...
  6. Moyer over Morris? Moyer is the ultimate compiler. He pitched forever with only a couple dominant years. While he never actually reached the point where his age was a bigger number than the speed of his fastball, he probably had the smallest gap between the two numbers in MLB history...
  7. So should Bloom give him a try based on that?
  8. Based on what? Age is the only reason he should still get some consideration...
  9. Honestly, why is it more than one?
  10. Nolan Ryan is first in K’s and first in BB’s. Pete Rose is first in hits and first in outs. Cy Young is first in wins and first in losses. They all belong (Yes, Rose does.) So yes, that shouldn’t effect Blyleven, who is 29th in BB allowed..,
  11. I would imagine Song has trade value. Despite his potential military service, he’s still probably closer to the majors than most of this year’s crop of 16 year old Dominicans, who certainly have some trade value...
  12. Yeah commentary is better, but only a few people offer it up. I’m assuming a thumbs up/down relates to it being good for both sides, but who knows? Probably varies from person to person...
  13. I was kidding. Both teams are more likely to wait until waivers clear if either has any interest at all. I think both players will be in Asia shortly...
  14. No. There’s one criteria justified by 1,000 different excuses...
  15. Agreed. They let Sandy Koufax In despite his short reign of (utter) dominance, but usually they prefer a longer career. But why Koufax but not Lefty O’Doul? And when do they decide Dale Murphy was good enough? And really - WTF is this whole FIFTEEN TIMES on the ballot thing? So a player isn’t good enough 14 times, does absolutely nothing, and is now good enough?
  16. Seeing what Betts is worth using their methods is interesting. You come on here, and fans expect absolute top tier prospects for the right to pay Betts $30mill for one year. I keep seeing Gavin Lux, Dustin May and Alex Verdugo tossed about. But if I proposed the Red Sox trade Tristan Casas, Bryan Mata and Jarren Duran for Trevor Bauer, I am pretty sure I’d here “Three of our best prospects for a rental???!? That’s just stupid!!” I like that 1) it has no personal team biases, and 2) I can get feedback from a range of people, especially since it can handle how individual GMs plan to build teams and evaluate players.
  17. Right because the voting method was so perfect. The same method that said “Tony Perez? In. Steve Garvey and Don’t Mattingly? Out. Dave Bancroft? In. Larry Walker? No. Don Sutton? Makes sense. Jim Kaat? No it doesn’t.” Yeah let’s defend that method. The fact that Bert Blyleven took 15 years to get into Cooperstown shows what a joke voting is. The guy was fifth all time in strikeouts - the most exciting pitching category. If you’re top five all time in any cumulative category, you should be in the Hall...
  18. Morris is a bizarre example very good pitcher whose entire career was suddenly cast into greatness because of one game in the limelight...
  19. Heck, Jamie Moyer’s is 49.9...
  20. They’re components of WAR...
  21. Maybe they put in a waiver claim on Greg Bird
  22. The Yankees kept him on the 40 man roster despite being out for the year with TJ surgery? That was silly.
  23. On the bright side, at least the Sox didn't trade Johnson for the next Eric Gagne...
  24. Ramon Torres? Or Carlos?
  25. And the Yankees need SP. Johnson isn't going to fill a role at the top of any rotation outside of Korea, but the Yankees might want another lefty depth starter behind a rotation filled with aging question marks. They could easily get a better one than Johnson, but probably not by dealing Greg Bird...
