  1. He has a 104 OPS+, which makes him barely above average as a hitter. Basically, he's Kole Calhoun but without the defense....
  2. That's like getting excited about the 2012 Red Sox because they had Ortiz, AGon, Lester and Beckett...
  3. Not really so sure about his continued fascination with Avisail Garcia...
  4. Why didu you like the 1980's so much? The Sox finished 4th place or lower 6 times that decade. The first 5 years of that decade was the team's least successful stretch since the first half of the 1960's through to today...
  5. I would say Barnes and Workman both are 100% likely to be tendered contracts. The odds are much, much less for Leon and Hembree...
  6. You were bound to be right about something sooner or later...
  7. Winning the title is obviously great. But being able to watch the Sox from April through September every year is a little more important to me than being able to enjoy the occasional October...
  8. By how much? Right now we’re basing this on arbitration estimates. Plus who are you assuming plays CF and for how much? Same with 1b (or 2b) and fifth SP? And the last bullpen role or two...
  9. The thing about trading him at the deadline is it flies in the face of the goal of getting under the limit, since it’s pretty much impossible to get under and keep Betts without some much less likely scenario, like dealing Price. So we will see how serious this “goal but not a mandate” based on whether or not they deal Betts...
  10. Bear in mind this isn’t a deal just for a former MVP - it’s for one year of former MVP and a salary of roughly $30mill. I think the Sox can get a good prospect - most likely Keibert Ruiz - for Betts. But all these “2 from Lux, May, and Ruiz” proposals are extremely unlikely for a rental who has openly said he will not sign an extension...
  11. Also - Andrew Miller for Eduardo Rodriguez...
  12. How about Mike Stanley for Tony Armas Jr.? Also, you severely undersell Marte who was BA #9 at the time. That’s overall #9, not Braves #9....
  13. So are you done trying to convince Sox fans that Devers is definitely getting traded? And that’s Bloom is absolutely going to run this team like he ran Tampa, and that his style there was NOT influenced by budgetary limitations? I mean, you spent half of last off-season telling us we are DEFINITELY getting a new closer because DD has always had one, despite that being the exact opposite of his history. Bottom line - not so sure you’re doing at great job at these GM readings beyond your repeated attempts to convince us and yourself that it’s already time for the Yankee fans to gloat about 2020...
  14. Heathcliff Slocumb for Lowe and Varitek. Renteria for Andy Marte
  15. I got married in ‘04 and my daughter was born in ‘07. I’m not allowed to like the other decade better...
  16. I doubt we’re the next Rays. “Next Dodgers” seems like a likelier goal...
  17. ... which is the new normal. MLB needs to have some of NFL Style Black Friday Shopping Spree for free agency...
  18. Thinking more of incoming than outgoing here...
  19. Now yes. But not really the same. When Sale came on board, Benintendi was the bigger need and better fit...
  20. Not even for Fernando Tatis Jr.?
  21. As of right now, I’m not asking Bloom to actually do anything. I just want a few rumors to show he’s alive and potentially plans to be active at some point. Just some press releases. “Red Sox Interested in Matt Adams.” Or “Boston Inquired About Lewis Brinson.” I don’t even care if they’re true. Is that too much to ask?
  22. Ok back to this. Last year, I was still making these comments all through January. The same the year before. But this year - and it’s still November - isn’t looking much more active. Can we at least get some rumors? A name or two in the media that the Sox are “interested in”? I really don’t want another Stagnant Nothing off-season...
  23. Maybe. Verlander also had that outrageous contract at the time...
  24. I don’t think too many teams are intrigued by Noah Song just yet. He wasn’t the 137th overall pick because of the excessive demand...
  25. I always heard the name “Gleyber Torres” in those rumors...
