    Why don't we just cite those old Miller Lite "tastes Great, Less Filling" ads with Luis Tiant while we're at it? That chicks did the long ball ad featured 3 now-retired major leaguers, two of whom have already been enshrined in Cooperstown and a third who has failed on multiple attempts due to his steroid usage. (In hindsight, was it saying "Chicks dig stanislozol?")

    But can the Reds squeeze a $25mill salary? They would certainly like to move India, as they are loaded at 3B. If they Sox do move Betts, the Dodgers are another prime option, especially if they lose their 3rd straight WS this year, or don't make it that far at all. That would make them an organization with a sense of urgency and desperation...

Reportedly, Dombrowski was trying to acquire him, no idea with what. They didn't do so bad at the deadline, and while they got 4 players all ranked in their top 26 by Fangraphs, only one had a FV above 45, and that was Yusniel Diaz (their #2) at 50...

    1) is unlikely, but we can't deny it exists. 3) means less in return, as it is just straight up Mookie for a half season. Dealing him this off-season means the Sox can get more back, as they are dealing Mookie and a draft pick when he rejects to QO. If you're going to deal Betts, do it right.

    It's too early to tell. There are pros and cons to both scenarios, and i think i will have a slightly clearer picture when some front office dust settles. If the Sox bring in some farm-building type, he is probably gone. But until we know who is running the team. The Sox do still have a strong lineup core in Bogaerts, Devers, Martinez, and Benintendi, and are not likely to find taked for Price, Sale and Eovaldi. They might keep Betts, hope 2020 works out better, and then re-sign him. But it also depends on what one year of an MVP is worth to other teams, as well..

    While fire sale is certainly a possibility, it's not something the Red Sox do very often. Other than the Great Reset Button Trade of 2012. If the Sox try it, the hard part will be finding takers. I think they move the tradable players like Barnes (who should have some market), possibly Workman (I hope not, but he is establishing some value) and maybe try to move Bradley, but if all else fails they non-tender JBJ...

    If this was actually true, you would know the Sox cannot afford him and have any hope of reset unless they deal Mookie. And certainly makes your scenario of offering him $5mill or $6mill utility infielder money look even sillier...

    If JBJ is offered only $5mill in arbitration, the two sides will not agree and the Sox will lose the hearing. In arbitration cases, each side submits a figure, and an independent arbiter decides which of the two salaries the player deserves. He chooes one of the two offers, not some third number comprimise. If the Sox offer $5mill, Scott Boras will counter with $12mill. Then the arbiter will definitely decide the $12mill salary is the one Jackie deserves, because Bradley is going to get paid closer to AJ Pollock than he is to Jon Jay. If the Sox don't offer arbitration, then Jackie is a free agent. That's how it works. And Boras knows JBJ can get a better deal in free agency than that, and he will advise Bradley accordingly. And Bradley didn't hire Boras so he could ignore his advice. That is how those "ifs" will play out...

    No idea. AJ Pollock got 4 years $60mill. Pollock is a much better player, but also has serious injury concern. Bradley was worth slightly more (5.0 fWAR to 4.8 fWAR) in 2017-18, but with an 52 game advantage in playing time as well. Bradley would also be 2 years younger if he was a free agent this year. But Pollock is also viewed as a guy who can bat anywhere from 1st to 6th, where as Bradley is a clear bottom-of-the-order fixture. I would suspect Bradley gets less than Pollock, but how much less? His agent (one Scott Boras) is undoubtedly aware of the fWAR numbers...

    Well, MA doesn't have an extensive tornado history. That's an honor similar to having the fastest Edsel on your street. But I would guess it was pretty bad, considering the books about it were titled "42 Miles of Hell" and "84 Minutes, 94 Lives"...

    That would make sense to me. Not to mention, he might not have wanted the "Now" to be extended for so long and so much money in case it wasn't as long as hoped for...

    Also worth pointing out that, while a 3yr/$21mill offer is not unreasonable, why would JBJ accept it? If he can make $10mill in arbitration, he would only need a 2 yr/$12mill offer in free agency to come out ahead. And he probably wants to be locked up longer than 3 years, which is more likely after 2020 than after 2022...

    It's not unreasonable. It might not be affordable, either, barring something drastic, like JD opting out or dealing Betts. Of those two options, dealing Betts is far more likely in my opinion (which might be worthless on the subject)...
