  1. If these are the names involved, Thames already owns a 1b glove. It seems silly to rotate him to DH and JD to 1b. I actually like Calhoun as a player when he is on. When he is that high OBP, good power, rifle-armed right fielder. If Betts goes, he would be a good solution, but I think the price tag might not work out...
  2. I was drawing a parallel and trying to elicit thoughts. So do you believe in lineup protection and that it impacts batting average?
  3. Yeah the Sox were brought done by a slump from the ninth spot hitter. No team should have to deal with such horror...
  4. Calhoun is a good defender and inconsistent hitter. So not a DH. Plus, JD Martinez didn’t opt out, so DH is not on Bloom’s radar...
  5. You know, it is possible to field a winning team without Bradley or Betts. Possibly even a championship team if the right moves are made.
  6. If they trade Betts (ugh) and Eovaldi and non-tender Bradley, that puts them where?
  7. Two words: Mookie trade. JD back means Mookie likely isn’t...
  8. But only a $21mill AAV. Now if he does opt out next year, the average value of his 3 year contract in Boston does go up. Does MLB retroactively adjust this for luxury tax implications from 2018 and 2019?
  9. Honestly, it was the easiest prediction ever. However, I’m only halfway there, as I am on record in a dozen or so posts as to saying he WILL opt out after 2020...
  10. I thought it was silly. Wakefield’s issues were related to run support. Doug Mirabelli is not the solution for poor run support...
  11. My bad. I had the formula backwards...
  12. And certainly never answer one with a command. Actually I think answering a question with a question is a good thing. It’s better to teach people to think than just recite rote facts...
  13. But once they reset, I expect them back over the limit in 2021, with Betts back for the long haul...
  14. I'm assuming the reset is a one time thing. But they don't matter in that the AAV doesn't escalate just because the salary does...
  15. The Brewers are another possibility. They could use a 3B, and don't need CF/RF Trent Gresham. baseballtradevalues.com says a deal of Dalbec for Gresham and RHP Freddy Peralta is a match. Not sure the Milwaukee GM would agree...
  16. .811 OPS in AA last year. He's never played AAA, but no AAA league is worse for evaluating hitters than the Pacific Coast League anyway...
  17. The later years don't matter. What matters towards luxury tax is the average annual value of the contract. For Odor, that's $8.25mill, so even with Mazara at $5.7mill, it's far less than the $17mill for Eovaldi's AAV. The Sox would save about $3.05mill towards to luxury tax with this deal...
  18. If you believe in lineup protection, does that make BA meaningless?
  19. Dalbec to Anaheim for CF Brandon Marsh? If Devers isn't going to 1b, Dalbec is blocked. Putting him at 1B doesn't really do much, as that position can easily be filled with a hitter more likely to contribute and it doesn't take advantage of Dalbec's biggest strength. Anaheim doesn't really have a 3B. They did use Tommy La Stella in his breakout campaign last year, but he can also play 2B. Marsh is unlikely to see outfield time in Anaheim with Upton-Trout-Adell in front of him and Ohtani holding down the DH role...
  20. Jake Arrietta and Kenley Jansen have declined their opt out clauses. As has Rusney Castillo is what will undoubtedly be the least surprising move of the entire off-season. No word yet from JDM...
  21. ... for a next-to-nothing 1b prospect. I’ll give Bloom a pass since Anderson has not been one to perform up to his salary the past couple seasons...
  22. Seeing them as well. We’re probably all seein different ads because web advertisements are often customized to the viewer whether he/she likes it or not. Thank you, Google and Facebook...
  23. Actually Latino players were always allowed. Many African American players pretended to be Latino. But you left out removing foul poles and free agency, bringing back Sunday double headers (which should actually happen IMO), and allowing spitballs and steroids...
  24. The major flaw in DD' plan to ignore the future was the future gt here faster than expected. If the Sox been in position to make the playoffs, would he have been fired at that time? And if they did make the post-season, would he have been fired at all? This is all hypothetical, of course...
  25. In fact, JD has both options. If he does not like where the Sox trade him, he can opt out after 2020...
