  1. And they will announce it, but not necessarily 5 minutes after it ends. This stuff doesn't happen in real time. Clearly the investigation has reached a point where the Sox are comfortable know ing there was minimal involvement in any and expect minimal penalties if any...
  2. No more strawman? I don't like that. I always pictures Strawman as this yellow-ish scarecrow-like superhero who uses his power of disingenuous and deceptive comparisons to fight crime. I think he has potential for a Cartoon Network show...
  3. I don't trust that last source...
  4. Actually, I would not be surprised if Shea tried to strangle him but missed altogether...
  5. So after the 162 game season where they underperformed, the 7 game post-season series represented "turning the corner"? I will say, Timlin was ungodly that post-season. But the rest were up and down and rather nondescript. But, hey, if you don't like how history played out for the Red Sox these past 17 years, maybe you also wish Bledsoe never got hurt against the Jets back in 2001...
  6. The funny thing about 2003 is the Sox lost all 4 ALCS games started by Pedro and Derek Lowe, but won the games started by Wakefield and John Burkett...
  7. The best thing about John Gibbons is that Shea Hillenbrand tried to strangle him...
  8. Honestly, I can see both decisions. I thought Pedro was running out of gas, but the Sox bullpen had been a problem all year long. This was a classic case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't." Not sure why people don't just recognize that it was not an easy decision with no obvious right answer. Are we going on 17 years still second-guessing this? We have FOUR World Series titles, and if Grady made some move that worked out, the Sox potentially never hire Terry Francona. So maybe they not only lose in 2003 in the World Series to Florida, but also 2004 and 2007 never happen. And then who knows about 2013 and 2018, since so many other factors come into play. Bottom line: Grady was screwed either way, and Red Sox fans have four massive reasons to be happy that things payed out the way they did...
  9. Is Bradley your new Pedroia?
  10. No one expects Verdugo to be Betts. No one. Not even Verdugo's mom. The bootom line is the Red Sox needed to do something drastic to prevent far worse ramifications down the road. One poster on this board repeatedly said the contracts for Price and Eovaldi were bad ideas because they would cost this team it's core talent, specifically Betts. But to be fair, whether you listened to me or not, it's not like anyone here could have prevented it. This is the smartest way around the fallout, with the possible exception that maybe dealing Eovaldi instead of half of Price would have worked better.
  11. He'd rather give birth to a flaming porcupine before that happens...
  12. So you have concluded Graterol cannot pitch as a starter based on one inning and a few occasional highlights, and you have already concluded the Red Sox are guilty. Do you make any decisions based on so little evidence? Do you also ignore a preponderance of evidence if it is wearing pinstripes?
  13. Or, you know since most managers manage to win and not to avoid press confrontations, it's a reason to leave Pedro in. You're advocating relying on the biggest weakness because everyone knows it's a weakness...
  14. Also, can we please stop with the "but the Boston media will blow this out of proportion!" ********? 1. Who cares? Seriously? Does anyone really care about this? 2. Should the Red Sox only make moves that Tony Massarotti approves of? 3. Is it really "out of proportion" if everyone knows? 4. If they're going to blow Verdugo have a beer as a tenneager into a charcter flaw, why will they spare Betts' and his desire to reach free agency (aka "insurmountable greed")?
  15. But... but... but... that's a distinction without a difference....
  16. We did. All year long...
  17. So Roenicke needs to be punished because Cora was dirty in Houston?
  18. Or maybe all this "he can't be a starter" crap is based on the snap judgment of one person who saw Graterol pitch exactly one inning and caught a few other random highlights. Before that sounds too judgmental on my part, I can confess I've probably made snap judgements on less...
  19. I could have named a lot more, too. Rich Reuschel, Sid Fernandez, Carlos Silva, Pete Vukovich...
  20. He only had 9 innings in the majors and only faced 3 batters in the ALDS (striking out 2). Even if you saw his entire season's game log, it seems a bit premature to disqualify him from a career in the rotation. If being heavy disqualifies a pitcher from the rotation, are you saying Fernando Valenzuela ain't gonna cut it?
  21. How is Gonsolin - never ranked by anyone - somehow that much pricier than Graterol?
  22. Exactly how many times have you seen Graterol pitch?
  23. Actually that’s not a bad idea. Never happen, but I like it...
  24. Maybe, but I also want Carlin’s opinion on the subject...
