    So your laughable claim is Mookie is being mistreated by the Red Sox, who are clearly showing they don’t appreciate him because they will not make him the highest paid athlete in the history of professional sports while also paying heavy league fines for no reason as well? So are the Dodgers the team that respects and appreciates Betts in this scenario? The team saying “we want Mookie, but not enough to give up these unproven minor leaguers.” What do you think Mookie thinks about that? If your whole point is Mookie’s feelings, how do you suppose he’d answer the question “Hey Mookie, the Dodgers want you but want Gavin Lux more. What do you think? Also, same thing for Dustin May. Thoughts? Know what? They also won’t give up Keibert Ruiz for you despite his being blocked for the next five years. Does this feel like the respect you deserve? That the Dodgers value Keibert Ruiz as a backup catcher over you?”

    You do realize which side has been more difficult when it comes to reaching an agreement?

    No rotation help between Boston and Mata. Dalbec absolutely lacks the mobility for 2b. But the defensive requirements of the position are in flux. Rather than being capable of making up range for slower, behemoth-like first baseman, 2bmen now spend between 1/3 and 1/4 of their time in short right field, where quickness means less but a strong arm means more. Also, while I expect Dalbec would be less agile, if he can take advantage of his 6’4” frame, he can make up for some lack of range. And if he flops, Pawtucket loses a couple more games. Low risk. But yeah, I suspect he plays mostly, if not solely 1b this year...

    I don’t like using rookies as weak side platoon options, unless that rookie has a low ceiling. Dalbec does need a new position, since (hopefully) 3b is locked up for a while. If this trade happens and Verdugo locks up RF, 1b is a good option. Although trying something radical like 2b would be my first try (in Pawtucket, of course)...

    Because paying him, say $40 million this year means paying $78 mill counting luxury tax (assuming $20 mill overage). If the Sox reset, paying him $40 mill next year means paying $47mill (assuming same overage).

    Not likely at all. Mookie doesn’t hate Boston, but he was offered 300 million reasons to stay and it didn’t convince him. Not to mention this scenario involves Henry learning everything about Mookie via reports. While the two probably don’t hang much, safe bet they know each other better than that...
