  1. The main reason I don’t love him is summed exactly in your second sentence. And really, it’s not even Eovaldi I have antipathy for; it’s the stupid contract Dombrowski gave him that completely ignored how fragile he is...
  2. Like a higher percentage of porn stars enjoy their job than accountants?
  3. Exactly. Despite the massive difference in cost and other conveniences, I will still go to more Cubs or White Sox games every year than I will Schaumburg Boomers games...
  4. But see, unless you have something the Braves want, they’re not going to trade their pitching. Right now the Braves are loaded most everywhere with talent under control. Their roster weaknesses are all shored up by top prospects below. Except at 3b. If they liked Dalbec, things might be good. But so far, they’ve shown no interest. They’re free agent interests at the position we’re names like Donaldson and Rendon. High end talent. I’d guess no possibility for a deal. If the Sox need to trade for SP, their most tradable commodity is Dalbec. Teams like Miami and Kansas City should be interested. And Miami is flush with MLB starting pitching...
  5. It’s their one shot at not needing another job after baseball. When you retire as young as most baseball players not named Moyer, you have to be able to afford a lot of years....
  6. It was only brought up negatively. It started out as Larry suggesting getting a Braves’ pitching prospect or two. And the only player Boston has they would want us Devers. I ran a couple simulations, but recommended against them both in the same post. The unspoken point was “forget about getting their pitching”...
  7. Actually I'd rather sign Puig than McHugh If there is any truth to the "spin rate" rumors and illegal substances the Astros gave to pitchers, McHugh is a prime beneficiary. And there very well might be. Cole is not the only pitcher to suddenly show drastic improvement in Houston. Charlie Morton also did, and Justin Verlander not only stopped trending in the wrong direction, he practically reset his career. Name one other pitcher in MLB history who had the three lowest WHIPs of their career at ages 34, 35 and 36. (OK, the universal answer to every late bloomer pitching question is Warren Spahn, who was actually older, but his best 3 WHIPs were not so clustered, as they were at ages 32, 35, and 42.) Know who comes closest? Charlie Morton, who best 3 WHIPs were at ages 33,34, and 35. And what else do Verlander and Morton have in common? Long story shorter: Astros clearly cheated everywhere. Avoid Collin McHugh...
  8. Yeah. Not likely. He's a future albatross. Just hope he takes longer than Stanton to become one...
  9. Yes, Mark. Because when the Red Sox run a secret cheating operation, they go and tell every former player about it...
  10. Puig is crazy, but he’s also crazy good. He’s played in the postseason almost every year of his career, so he isn’t dragging his team down. And the one year he missed, he ended the season on a 93 win team that traded its ace in July (for him)...
  11. Only for the persepctive. Frankly, as I said in both posts, I'm underwhelmed by the return. There is a better chance of the Sox signing me than trading Devers...
  12. It is. I think the Sox should do the following 1. Sign Collin McHugh 2. Sign Yasiel Puig. (You don't get knocked off the Puig Bandwagon by Kevin Pillar.) I think the Myers-style "prospect buys are nice, but most of the other contracts in the same position come with mediocre to bad farm systems attached, or teams unwilling to move the payers in them. If I could move Dalbec for pitching depth (Atlanta?), I do it. He's blocked anyway...
  13. Or, if you need 4, the Sox could ask for Drew Waters and Austin Riley instead of Pache. Buy I think that is a bad replacement...
  14. I think it's dead. Time to move on and make the same pitch for Rougned Odor and Kolby Allard...
  15. Trade simulator on BTV has deal of Devers for Christian Pache, Ian Anderson and Kyle Wright as about equal. I wouldn't do it. It also has a deal of Dalbec for Wright as acceptable. I would do it so fast, we'd all go back in time. But I am not so sure Atlanta would make that deal at all...
  16. There never has been "loyalty". Players were only loyal to their team before because the Reserve Clause told them they had to be. Do people think Ted Williams would have played his whole career in Boston if he had any say? Or Joe DiMaggio with the Yankees (especially since they were among the lower paying teams in MLB, per David Halberstam)? Even nowadays, are the Jared Weavers and Xander Bogaerts really "loyal" because they forego free agency? Or do they just like the status quo? You know, not want to put the kids in new schools, etc...
  17. So teams get penalized for front loading contracts? What about the Padres, who received an actual benefit by only paying Wil Myers $5mill per year for the past 3 years on a $13.8mill AAV?
  18. Maybe MLB should come up with their own form of currency to pay players with to allow their egos to be satisfied? "You contract pays you two bajillion Manfred Bucks per year for the next 5 seasons?" "Woohooo!! How much is that is real money?" "We'll talk later. Sign here."
  19. Why? If they already paid above the AAV, they get penalized for it? If they paid below the AAV, would they get credited? And who is the psychotic accountant at MLB who drew that up?
  20. And what do the Sox have the Braves want? (Hint: Devers) I think this might be a hard pass...
  21. I think everyone would do that deal. Except Preller and his fanbase...
  22. Renteria was a close proximity to OCab, at least before Boston. With Gonzalez, Renteria did not depart via free agency, so there was no possibility of doubling up the draft picks...
  23. Well, Theo also liked doing the "two for one" draft pick flip by signing a player who was roughly equivalent...
  24. But PED usage seems to be a bigger taboo in baseball than in other sports. No one cares if a football player tests positive. It’s actually expected on some levels. MLB needs to market itself using more social media as Slasher suggested. That’s where the eyes are...
