  1. Maybe. And maybe game 2, where Snell threw 4.2 no-hit innings and then the wheels came off was also a factor. (I do think if he got Barnes out, that he at the very least gets a chance to finish the inning.)
  2. Maybe there are actually 3 very similar pitchers named Robert Stock? The Sox are stocked with Stocks!!
  3. Of course, he could have 2 million options and it still wouldn't make him a lock to avoid a DFA. At best, it might put him behind a similar pitcher with none, like Brice...
  4. So you think that if Snell struck out Barnes, he would have been pulled? I know this is really hypothetical...
  5. Well he always has the option of returning to host Unsolved Mysteries...
  6. If Stock has 2 options, it probably helps his case a little. Of course, finding the strike zone once in a while would help it a heckuva lot more....
  7. They actually appear to have multiple conflicts regarding options. Matt Hall is another one they differ in the profile and on the 40 man page...
  8. I think that's what it is all about. Unfortunately, deciding who is more likely to contribute between Brice, Mazza, Stock, Walden, etc. is a complete guessing game. With Aybar, he is a bit younger and has the option of staying in the minors, so you have a few seasons to see if he can contribute. If they DFA Aybar, it is because they just don;t think he has the talent. Sometimes that just doesn't work out either. While the Sox were trotting out this collection of retreads and hoping someone showed something, their own DFA in Jordan Weems was contributing in the bullpen of the AL West champions...
  9. No. They have him with zero. https://soxprospects.com/players/stock-robert.htm
  10. Cash was obviously aware that Anderson had been struggling recently, so either he ignored his recent data and went with his gut. Or he found some data that seemingly justified the move at the time. To say he solely removed Snell because the top of the order was coming up for the third time and the computer said so is also saying he would have removed Snell had he struck out Barnes. With 2 outs and no one on and Betts up, I am not so positive he makes that move. It is also possible that Snell's sudden inability to get people out after 4.2 no hit innings in game 2 came into play....
  11. True., but some of the appeal for players on the 40 man is whether or not they also have to be on the 26 man. If the Sox hold Stock, they are gambling that this career minor leaguer will either make the roster out of spring training or be DFA'd. If you are dedicating a 40 man roster spot, wouldn't it make sense to give preference to someone who does not involve that decision right off the bat? It's not like any of these guys are clear cut owners of a 40 man roster spot based on talent...
  12. Yeah but at some point, he was the anchor of this team;s strength. And a big part of why the Rays got as far as they did. And maybe Cash figured he needed him and that pen to have any chance at all....
  13. Stock is also out of options, so he is the #2 to go, as you said. Everyone else (except Pedroia) has at least one option left....
  14. There probably are. But if Anderson was fatigued, it's really something he has to talk to Cash about before the game...
  15. Yeah there is no data for what the pitching change itself did. And they really can't do that, since it is based on actual game play...
  16. I don’t think Kendrick, who turns 38 next year, is a full time option for 2b. Adam Eaton is an interesting thought. He’s no Bradley, but he might be able to handle CF if he’s flanked by Benintendi and Verdugo...
  17. It’s not a question of whether or not Cash makes mistakes. It’s a question of whether or not he relies solely on the computer, as you said he does in the OP...
  18. Well, like I said, the game plan was clearly to ride the bullpen. Since he was not able to get a good game out of Glasnow, it's possible he decided to change his strategy for game 6, when his back was up against the wall. What are you saying - that he has to use the same strategy every day? And really, we don;t know how much of his "twice through the lineup" plan was based on conversations with Snell, or what he felt he could get out of his pen, or possibly even his desire to use Snell as an emergency reliever the next day. The bottom line is, none of us really know everything behind why Snell was pulled. And leave Snell in or pull him out, the Rays only scored one run and were shutout the final 8 innings. THAT was a much bigger factor in losing...
  19. Of course he said he did not have his good stuff, and he didn't. But the Rays got where they were by riding their bullpen, too. And really, if Anderson doesn't have that WP, do you not see that entire inning being drastically different?
  20. Sure, but he might be less of a guarantee than ERod and Sale...
  21. I'm guessing Jamie Moyer. But then producing more WAR than Darren Bragg is not exactly a major accomplishment...
  22. Do you think that Betts was a .304/.370/.522 hitter in 27 PA vs Snell also mattered? Mookie was the one guy in their lineup with a long history against Snell..
  23. So he was planning on going with the strength of his bullpen?
  24. Or when Jimy Williams started Pete Schourek in the "must win" game 4 of the 1998 ALDS with Pedro available on short rest. Williams was crucified for the call before the game was even played, but Schourek pitched a gem that day. And then Tom Gordon fell apart...
