  1. So you prefer the unproven Password over the guy who lead the Sox in nearly every offensive category vs RHP last year? What if Password and his lesser credentials don’t work out? More Nate Eaton? Cora is rotating his crew fine. He has had the option of rotating his OFs into the DH role and still only does so on a limited basis. I will assume he realizes that out doesn’t make sense to rotate Rafaela and Abreu into a DH spot.
  2. That didn’t even make sense. Yoshida has shown himself to hit RHP better than either Refsnyder or Gonzalez. And if the complaint is too many OFs, why is bringing Garcia the acceptable solution? Thats just as complicated. Not to mention, how long until the fascination with Password wears off? If he’s still mediocre after 200PA, does he get packed away on the Forgotten Shelf next to Kristian Campbell? Given the weaknesses the Sox OFs have vs LHP, there are plenty of ABs to go around for Refsnyder and Romy. Not sure why the urge to force one or both into the game vs LHP.
  3. I have to think it’s more Cora. I’ve never gotten the impression Breslow is a Yoshida fan. Yoshida sat rusting away not playing in Worcester for a reason, and one not related to his ability to swing a bat, as he had done so in March. Certainly Cora wasn’t responsible for keeping Yoshida off the active roster in Worcester. Not to mention Breslow always had the plan to push out Yoshida and make Devers the DH…
  4. I see why Sánchez was called up - having a third catcher can be a big deal, especially if ping hitting for Wong is a necessity. Not wild about Kelly. What other pitchers were available and healthy?
  5. The difference is, however, anyone advocating a trade of Duran is advocating trading for something. No one wants Duran just DFAd or out the door to remove Cora’s temptation from starting the allegedly inferior players. (Wouldn’t that make Cora the problem?) If the problem with Yoshida is the salary, then it’s pointless to pay him to play elsewhere. Plus some of us dont live in this FantasyLand where Henry and Co. re-invest every dollar saved back into the roster…
  6. Pro-rated MLB minimum. Sox are on the hook for the rest…
  7. It’s a shame they don’t just DFA Yoshida so that on of the outfielders can get hurt and the Sox can call up Trayce Thompson to DH…
  8. So he replaces Wheeler in the rotation for the season and Alvarado in the bullpen for the postseason…
  9. Oh yes there is. It wasn’t a salary dump; it was The Salary Dump…
  10. Absolutely. All he did was trade for and extend Crochet, extend Anthony, bring on Lowe, extend Campbell, trade for Narvaez, sign and extend Chapman, unload the unco-operative Devers and his entire contract, sign Bregman, extend Bello, and extend Rafaela. All of that can be overlooked because he committed the unforgivable act of acquiring the wrong pitcher with an ERA north of 5 over the past month…
  11. They also stole Carl Crawford and Nick Punto from us…
  12. It’s a one month sample. Ryan is a better pitcher overall, but he hasn’t been that much better since that trade
  13. Huh? Our return was headlined by a guy with a .761 OPS in AA…
  14. If you were GM of the Twins and your job and professional reputation ride on making good on a Joe Ryan trade, are you honestly telling me you would have accepted Duran (whose control doesn’t align with a rebuild), Sandlin and Mullins? And passed on Tolle?
  15. Well, if the players preferred to keep the roster largely intact, that means Duran, Abreu and Mayer were off limits (along with Anthony). At that point, Tolle is definitely included in the trade…
  16. Sure, but thats over a long sample. The last 2 months of this season are a short one, and players can perform below their norms for short samples for a multitude of reasons. Since the deadline, Ryan hasn’t not pitched all that much better than May. This is a fact. Whichever one had made the last 5 starts in Boston would have been underperforming. And if Ryan is hurt or fatigued, he would dry likely not improve this year. But what Ryan would do is cost at least one of Anthony, Mayer or Tolle. Maybe more. (BTV at the time had Ryan’s surplus value roughly equal to Mayer plus Tolle.)
  17. I said since the trade deadline. You know, when he would have come to Boston. His performances from April through July are of no use to Boston. I don’t know what it would have cost, but much more than May. It’s an incredibly safe bet names like Anthony, Tolle, and Mayer were on the Twins’ wish list…
  18. Are you saying you would not be complaining about Ryan and his 5+ ERA? And he probably would have cost Tolle plus. I’ll take May and Tolle over Ryan and his 5+ ERA…
  19. Since the trade deadline: Dustin May: 5.76 ERA (includes today) Joe Ryan: 5.06 ERA The grass isn’t that much greener. Especially considering Ryan wasn’t available for Tibbs…
  20. You clearly never met those 4 people…
  21. Maybe he left Tolle in too long. Hicks’ run turned out to be inconsequential. But theres no shame in getting shut down by one of the best pitchers in the game…
  22. Skenes has a .553 OPSA this year. He shuts down MLB teams…
  23. Yankees have to pass Boston. MLB now uses tie breakers and the Sox have already clinched their tie breaker with NY…
  24. Three of the Sox last 4 losses came when facing Skenes, Rodon and Trevor Rogers. And the other one was in extra innings. It does take a lot to beat this team, despite all the complaints…
