  1. I'm as down on Chavis as anyone, but at some point we should probably acknowledge his career consists of just 540 plate appearances. That's just one season's worth of PA...
  2. And then all he will need is a position...
  3. The whole "all in" tyhing basically means they are not unloading the farm for missing pieces. There are still plenty of free agent players thy can bring on board, either long term or for short/flip deals.
  4. Morton maybe. Smyly rarely even lasts to the break, so he is a poor option there. Worth pointing out they did do that with Perez...
  5. He’s the type of pitcher you’re better off having and not needing instead of needing and not having...
  6. Of those four, Pivetta is the guy with the highest ceiling. It’s just a matter of him reaching it. Happ is 38 and is trending like a 38yo. He could easily finish with the worst season of those four...
  7. Based on anything besides pinstripes?
  8. That “depth guy” was worth 3.2 fWAR in 2018...
  9. Safer to overestimate than underestimate...
  10. What about something like Archer ($4mill), Colome ($6mill), La Stella ($6mill), Rodon ($1.5 mill + incentives) and Marisnick ($3mill)? Somehow I think more of these guys find their way on to Bloom's radar...
  11. Like signing Carlos Rodon? You know, this market's version of Wade Miller...
  12. The Sox could sign Odorizzi ($14mill), Colome ($6mill per MLBTR), Marisnick (we'll say $3mill) and then deal for Frazier ($4.3mill) and be under the limit, but with very little room to add and stay under. But the team might actually be good. Not great, but good...
  13. And if this was the NFL or the NBA, that strategy has a little more merit. But in MLB, the benefit of punting a season has no impact beyond taking in less cash...
  14. You know, I was saying that same thing just the other day to Mark Teixeira...
  15. In the rotation? Right now soxprospects.com projects ERod, Eovaldi, Perez, Pivetta and Houck. Which 3 would you take Happ over?
  16. Exactly. Even if the team is not "all in" as Kennedy said, it at least could become a watchable product that provides many hours of enjoyment for the fans...
  17. Technically they can still do that with Bauer and Ozuna. But they won't. Maybe Odorizzi and Ozuna?
  18. I could pass on Happ. And thankfully, Bloom already did that. Despite the long history of former Yankees failing in Boston, I would not mind Tanaka. Paxton just seems like he gets hurt too much, and we already have Eovaldi for that...
  19. Well, that team did make a significant financial dump that took that down a few pegs on the payroll scale. They gave themselves the financial flexibility to improve and did so quickly..
  20. And yet Mookie's deal is the much better one.
  21. I don't hate the idea of 6 year contracts. I hate the idea of 6 year contracts for players over 30. Do you think Sox fans relish the idea of watching one of the highest paid teams in the league finish in last place like they saw in 2014, 2015, and 2020?
  22. The more likely reasons are 1) No real rush? The bulk of the players are still out there, and so far, the only player he made an offer to that signed elsewhere was Kluber 2) No budget? Not sure how much Henry is willing to spend, even after the reset. The pandemic still has its influences here. 3) No idea about the new CBA yet? Hey when you operate close to the penalty limits, you need to know what the impact is.
  23. I'm going to go all harmony on you here. ZIPS is projecting the following for 2021 Paxton - 2.7 fWAR Tanaka - 2.3 fWAR Happ - 1.6 fWAR These 3 combined for 1.7 fWAR in 2020, but in a 60 game season, not really all that good for comparisons. Zips also projects Kluber - 2.5 German - 2.1 Garcia - 2.1 So the Yankees gave up 6.6 fWAR and replaced it with 6.7 fWAR. I'd say all is equal here according to ZIPS...
  24. I think the perfect fit is the Angels. They need starting pitching. They have been "all in" for a couple years now and have very deep pockets. (Didn't anyone notice how they splurged for Anthony Rendon despite knowing their pitching was going to be a major obstacle in a title?) And most important Trevor Bauer has expressed a strong desire to start more games, as if he was in a 4 man rotation, but he was also very clear that his extra starts not become a requirement of his teammates. So not an actual 4 man rotation. The one team where this fits perfectly is the Angels, as they have a part time SP in Shohei Ohtani who could benefit from giving up an occasional start to Bauer while allowing he rest of the rotation to stay on track. I am not suggesting Bauer take Ohtani's starts but rather he take extra ones and then Ohtani's off day could reset the pace for Bundy, Canning, Quintana and/or Heaney. The injury history of a couple of those guys also makes their need for additional SP that much greater...
  25. Don't go swimming...
