  1. During that first off-season when Theo used the phrase “bridge year”, he also signed John Lackey. But a lot of people got caught up in the phrase itself and made it a much bigger deal than it ever should have been..
  2. Not me. Now if they signed him for 6 years $150 mill, I’d call Bloom on it....
  3. The conundrum is that good players can get so expensive, teams can only afford so many. A team with a good farm system can afford more of them as they would have more minimum wage players. But the Sox do not have that luxury. So have they reached their current limit of $20mill+ players? I think they have 3 in Bogaerts, Martinez and Sale...
  4. I started one, but it got injured...
  5. Maybe they will go over? Also we don’t know what was deferred on Kike’s deal...
  6. I’m ok with that, too.
  7. Including a 3 HR game in the postseason against the Cubs...
  8. So if Bloom: 1. Signs Odorizzi 2. Deals Benintendi for Inciarte and, say, Kyle Wright Is that enough? Inciarte CF Verdugo RF Bogaerts SS Devers 3b Martinez DH Dalbec 1b Renfroe LF Vazquez C Hernandez 2b ERod, Odorizzi, Eovaldi, Perez, Pivetta Barnes, Brasier, Hernandez, Taylor, Houck, Andriese, Whitlock, Wright?/Brice?/Valdez? BN: Plawecki,Arroyo, LHH bat (Miller? Moreland?),4th OF?
  9. Extra $12 mil? The deal only counts as $7mill AAV towards the tax limit, which is what matters. And that will drop more depending on how much is deferred.
  10. Ohhhhhh ... Hernandez was the third CF. Ok. Honestly Verdugo is the only internal option on the 40 man roster...
  11. I’m more on board with a quarter than 10 times. But will Holt do as well and at what point is the savings worth it? It’s not like the difference between the two would be enough to sign Ozuna...
  12. I also think his versatility makes him a fit in 2022 if Downs takes over 2b...
  13. If the Sox move Benintendi, an OF of Ozuna-Verdugo-Renfroe works for me. It does seem odd that the Sox would acquire a platoon bat for Benintendi and then trade Benintendi anyway...
  14. The only guy on the Sox who might be a CF is Verdugo. I don’t like Benintendi in CF, and not sure who h the he third CF is. I’d love to add Ozuna. Per MLBTR, the Sox are “interested” in him. But that doesn’t mean much...
  15. I am assuming they are already up. Eovaldi and Richards could take down TWO rotation spots at once very easily...
  16. I don’t think Bradley is anymore, but maybe someone like Marisnick or Almora might be...
  17. And neither will signing a one year deal that puts him in next year free agent class of shortstops. But if he wants to play SS, then Boston was not a great option. The Dodgers were reportedly asking him about 3b, but he did not sign there. His position demands might change over time. But we shall see. Philadelphia and Cincinnati both are in the SS market, and possibly the Yankees, too. So there might be enough chairs none of the three are left standing...
  18. Ten times his salary? Holt made $2.5 mill last year. Some sites list his 2021 salary at $750,000, but this is misleading. It’s not his salary, but Milwaukee’s buyout of a $5mill option. Brock Holt, at 3 years older, is not going to be as cheap as you think...
  19. Probably worth noting that per Chris Cotillo, Semien prefers “to sign as a shortstop.” If he does get less or equal money, it’s probably not from somewhere where he will be playing another position. And it would likely be a last minute deal. But this would put Bloom in the unwinnable position of having not waited long enough to make moves in order to appease a fan base that has spent most of the off-season complaining about his waiting to make moves...
  20. Having either one is bad enough. Having both is a recipe for disaster, which will come in the form of Chris Mazza starts...
  21. Not exactly a high bar. Do you not read my posts about Eovaldi?
  22. So will Semien's agent...
  23. The miniscule tax is not the issue. The issue is the escalating penalties as the payroll increase. Pending he new CBA..
  24. That is the only saving grace. From Henry's POV, my thoughts would be I do not mind paying a luxury tax if I am also making a boatload of $$$$ and winnings some trophies. But I do not want to pay it until that happens. Of course, as you said, Hernandez might have a $7mill AAV, but if enough of it is deferred, it can come down substantially.
  25. The criticism is that while Hernandez can play a lot of positions, he cannot pitch. And that is the Sox biggest need. I don't mind the move. Hernandez was not my top choice for 2B, but he was on my list. But I would like to the Sox sign a starting pitcher, which would bump Tanner Houck or (better yet) Nathan Eovaldi back into the bullpen, thus fixing two holes at once. And I prefer that SP not be named Garrett Richards, as he will in time just create another hole no matter how he is used....
