Sale's velocity has been 93-95 mph most of his career. The two years he averaged below that range were 2012 and 2016, and he combined for 10 fWAR in those two seasons. So if you want to argue he is a 5 fWAR pitcher and not a 6 fWAR pitcher, I don't think it is going to crush us...

If I had to guess, probably due to multiple teams interested. Kike is a good player, and if Downs takes over 2B next year, Kike can move into a supersub role or take over another position full time. I think his versatility was a big factor...

Not sure. Also not sure why Cleveland, a team that just acquired two middle infielders (Rosario, Gimenez) and still has no left fielder, decided to spend $5mill they claim they never have on another middle infielder. Half of what they effectively cut Brad Hand for making just went to a player to fill a position they had already filled!!

Make the tax rate equal to the amount a team is over. If you're $5mill over, you pay 5% of the overage (or $250K). If you're $45mill over, you pay 45% (or $20,250,000)...

You could do a Pederson/Renfroe platoon in Fenway RF. Per Ron Roenicke, Verdugo actually prefers CF. But that leaves Benintendi as a full time LF. I'd actually almost prefer Pederson as a full time RF or CF and Beni platoon with Renfroe at this point...

Or at least be more creative. Mayve for the penalties the GM has to: First year over, spend the night locked in an empty corn bin. Second year, you are forced to watch all the "Twilight" movies in a row with your eyes propped open like Alex in "Clockwork Orange" Third year, pickle brine bath!! For 3 hours!! Fourth year, you have to shave an angry black bear. And then fifth and final year, you have to get Bud Selig's name tattooed on your forehead. I think these need to be in the new CBA, and anyone who goes through them needs to have it live-streamed. Except the second year offenders. No "Twilight" live-streaming please...

Some chatter from around MLB that somehow is not on MLBTR yet: Marcus Semien appears to be close to making a decision. The Brewers and Twins are two of his choices. Go figure. JBJ is talking to the Mets. JT Realmuto and the Phillies are trying to get something finished. My guess? The Phillies are being kinda cheap here. But hey. they have never made a deal like this in the Sam Fuld Era...

Also true. Missed him because he is not listed as a CF. I am a rare one who likes Pederson and would not bother platooning him. He gets 5-10 PA vs LHP every year. He's not going to learn to hit them without getting more. I'd be OK with bringing on Pederson for RF/CF. Wonder what his demands are. I'm calling Bloom...

Yes. Don't you? The only way it isn't is if Renfroe just takes over RF and Verdugo moves to CF, leaving Benntendi on his own in LF. Exactly, which is what I would try to avoid...

I think we know who is platooning with Renfroe. As for a LHH CF, the options are: via Free agency: Bradley Brian Goodwin Billy Hamilton (S) Jarrod Dyson Jon Jay Danny Santana (S) Dee Strange-Gordon via trade: Ender Inciarte Adam Hasely Roman Quinn (S) Not sure what other LHH CFs can be had via trade. I will say I do like the LHH off the bench thing more so because I would prefer a Plan B in case Dalbec goes all Chavis on this team after he gets exposed. Mitch Moreland should suffice. Becuase right now, if Dalbec flummoxes, who plays 1b? Chavis and/or Ockimey?

Ozuna is not a horrible defensive OF. He actually had seasons where he put up good defensive metrics in CF...

Hopefully the Sox can get another arm (or two - hey, MiLB deals are a good thing) and a RF/CF and they might actually have a decent team. If they get Colome and Ozuna, I would think this team could get a WC. And if things break right, who knows?

And if that happens, hopefuly it keeps the Sox in some sort of contention. Richards has a team option already, so that one has been taken care of. (And he is not a guy you go long term with anyway.) ERod is really the only long term candidate from the option year guys...
