  1. ..who are a growing population..
  2. There are several names there that do not excite me, including Melancon, Kennedy, McGee, Wilson, Watson, Robertson ad the oft-injured Doolittle. And not sure how much Romo has left in the tank. Ditto Cishek and Soria But.. Colome, Kela, Rondon, Greene, Workman and Rosenthal all work for me
  3. Not really. In OPS, it's sort of viewed as OBP's annoying little brother...
  4. That's one of the simplest solutions. And both players have ties to Bloom...
  5. Last year there were 3 from one division
  6. Cannot force him to sign. And there are other closers still out there. Keone Kela, for example. Other available free agents with closing experience include Falmouth native Steve Cishek, Shane Greene, Mark Melancon, Ian Kennedy, Dave Robertson, Sergio Romo, Hector Rondon, Trevor Rosenthal, Joakim Soria, Brandon Workman, Sean Doolittle, Jake McGee, Tony Watson and Justin Wilson. Not all of them necessarily have good days ahead of them...
  7. Well so far the roster has maybe one platoon on it. But really, as they only have 3 outfielders, the platoon is just our assumption. Right now, Verdugo is in CF and Renfroe is in right. But it is still January. If the Sox sign Moreland, then a platoon would be counterproductive to a rebuild, as it would stunt any potential development from Dalbec. Might as well just demote him and let him play full time. Now if they sign Moreland as a backup/occasional starter/insurance policy, that is different. And not sure where a platoon in CF comes from since, if it is not Verdugo, the Sox need two players for the position to platoon. Duran/Puello is probably not going to be the solution, especially since neither is even on the 40 man roster. A platoon at 2B would require a LHH 2b. As of now, all of the Sox 2b options (Hernandez, Chavis, Arroyo, Munoz) bat right-handed. And like I said, the Sox appear to be in a pitching acquisition mode, even with the MiLB signings, waiver claims and the Rule 5 draft pick. A 9 man bullpen is looking likely. This means 4 bench spots, one of which is Plawecki. Which means at most, they could do 3 platoons. And that still looks unlikely given the roster construction to date. I know it is possible they sign a LHH CF and play Hernadez there vs LHP while he plays 2B vs RHP, but I think "possible" is the only word to describe that. I think the Sox see a platoon in LF after getting another OF. And that is it. I don't mind the idea of a platoon in LF with Hernandez in CF and Verdugo in RF. And then 2B goes to the best in ST from Chavis, Arroyo, and Munoz for however long they na hold on to the position. But I have a feeling that 2B is already settled with Hernandez and the Sox will get an OF for either CF or RF...
  8. They won't platoon at 4 positions. With only 4 bench players and one being a catcher, that's not possible...
  9. I think SLG is a very underrated stat. I can see why many like OBP better, but SLG should be given a lot more due than the massively overused and borderline useless batting average...
  10. I think the Beni Ship has sailed...
  11. There is a partial trade off with those teams (and Tampa) playing each other...
  12. Odorizzi needs to be the priority. Three years works for any timeline. Screw the tax limit; we just reset!
  13. That works too. Schoop seems to only get 1 year deals, but they have in the $6-9 mill range...
  14. So... Springs and Payamps? I'd go with Brice myself, but I think Bloom likes him for some reason. Wilson would be a candidate if the Sox had another MiLB outfielder ahead of him. Maybe if they have faith in Duran?
  15. How about: C: Vazquez 1B: Dalbec 2B: Chavis 3B: Devers SS: Bogaerts LF: Benintendi/Renfroe CF: E Hernandez RF: Verdugo BN: Plawecki, Arroyo, Moreland SP: Rodriguez/Odorizzi/Eovaldi/Richards/Perez BP: Ottavino/Barnes/Brasier/D Hernandez/Houck/Taylor/Whitlock/Andriese/Pivetta Just two signings away...
  16. Soxprospects.com does not him on the 40 man roster yet. But they do have Ottavino, which filled it up. So someone is getting DFA'd. Guesses? I'll go with Springs...
  17. More cash, but less per year. There is not a huge difference in those deals...
  18. I think they are very high on Pete Crow-Armstrong...
  19. Reid-Foley is in the backend of the Jays' pen. Diaz had a future value of 40 per Fangraphs prior to 2020. The equivalent Sox pitchers would be Thad Ward, Tanner Houck, Jay Groome and Brayan Bello. Matz is OK, but would you give up two from Ward, Groome and Houck for him?
  20. Why Would Philly want Vaz when they just spent a fortune to bring back Realmuto?
  21. Three years with a team option. The option vests if he is traded.
  22. Most accounts I have seen seem to say Cherington did a good job in both the Taillon and Musgrove trades, despite not really raiding either team's farm system...
  23. The Jays finally added a pitcher in Steve Matz. Bloom was probably wise to not go all in after him, as he cost the Jays three MiLB pitchers the Sox probably don't have equals for, and he has only 1 season of control. And frankly, never really lived up to his hype as a former consensus top 20 prospect, although he is not a bad pitcher. He's just not a real difference maker, and certainly not an innings eater. More of a warm body who can pitch without being a complete embarrassment...
  24. Actually if the Sox spent on a few players age 30 or less with 3 or 4 year deals, they become part of the rebuild that’s in play next season. Like Odorizzi, Kela, and Schoop, which I don’t think is a ridiculous scenario. Team could compete in 2021.
  25. For most GMs, the ability to assemble a winning team is 100% dependent on the budget. If ownership says “no spending”, that’s when a GM has to be good...
