  1. If the MLBPA wats the current deal in place, counteroffers make no sense for them. Are they being stubborn? Maybe. But right now it appears as though status quo is their stance, and they are sticking to it. And as a result, they will not be making counteroffers...
  2. The Orioles dealt Alex Cobb (plus $5 mill) to the Angels for MiLB prospect Jahmei Jones. That’s actually a pretty good get for a salary dump. Jones was once a consensus MLB top 100 prospect, and was still ranked in the top 100 by Baseball Prospectus as recently as their pre-2019 rankings. Jones did have a rough 2019 in the minors and got only 7 PA in 2020 in the Majors. Seems like either they gave up on the 23yo Jones fast or the new price for salary dumps is astronomical...
  3. Once they counteroffer, they’ve agreed to renegotiate. They do not want to renegotiate. You don’t maintain the status quo by making counteroffers...
  4. If they need him to hit, the Sox are going to need some louder trash cans...
  5. Maybe Bloom is ready to splurge and sign Bauer, Odorizzi, Colome, Ozuna and Wong tomorrow...
  6. Zero chance they DFA Potts, who is a former first round pick and was in AA by age 20...
  7. I think there will be a lot of minor league deals...
  8. 142 names left. for them all to get jobs, that would be nearly 5 per team..
  9. So far today, we've seen Sean Doolittle (a most ironic name for this post) sign. So maybe it's 2/3 - 2/14?
  10. Bloom and 29 other GMs
  11. And the biggest name on the market still without an employer. Heck, 16 of the top 50 (per MLBTR) are still without new contracts...
  12. You know, I was talking about that just the other day to Bobby Bonilla. I think we both know that the impact on the AAV and luxury tax of the Dodgers is a bigger deal than it will be on Betts' life and financial situation....
  13. He has a lot more time at 2B than OF. And his metrics at 2B are better than Strange-Gordon's are in the OF...
  14. He's going to take up shaving birds and collecting deodorants from around the world...
  15. While it would surprise me if the plan all along was to use Hernandez in CF, it certainly does have a lot of merit...
  16. You need to drink more...
  17. Since 2001, Kauffman Stadium with 17. Both Miller Park and Chase Field have had 13. Miller Park and Chase Field are both more known as home run friendly parks for balls leaving the yard....
  18. And the Coors factor is a commonly cited reason why he has not been able to walk into Cooperstown. Although it did not hamper Larry Walker all that much...
  19. They were close. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/trade-40839/
  20. Those .200 point OPS splits are why I do not mind the Sox staying away from the heavily paid Rockie sluggers like Arendao and Blackmon, whose .987/.747 splits are slightly worse and who does not bring gold Glove caliber defense along with him...
  21. How many OF-2B types does this team need? Especially ones who suck in the OF?
  22. THe deferrals do not affect the actual value of the deal. They just play games with the AAV for tax purposes. It may take a little longer than the contract states, but at some point Dodgers' ownership is going to pay him $365 million dollars...
  23. But those “sure things” get expensive fast. And the only way to keep the ones you have is to make sure you have a few semi-capable minimum wage players on hand. And the more “sure things” you take on, the tougher it gets to keep your own. No one wanted to see Betts go, except possibly Betts. And for all the talk about his extension with LA being a foregone conclusion from Day One, it still took the largest contract in MLB history to keep him there. And that’s what it took to keep him someplace where he was already HAPPY!! But because the Dodgers had Seager and Bellinger and Buehler and Gonsolin and found some scrap heap gems in Muncy and Taylor, and they had a stream of minor league arms, they had a lot better positioned to afford Betts. At least for now. We’ll see if it enables them to hold on to Bellinger...
  24. There’s also that Schilling guy, who certainly has the track record to be in Cooperstown...
  25. An easy list to find disagreements with. Mike Yastrzemski over Jake Arrieta? Max Fried over Corey Kluber? And those two were spotted on first glance. Also, Randy Johnson and Trevor Hoffman were essentially prospects when each was traded. The same can be said for that skinny kid Tommy LaSorda didn’t like. You know, Ramon’s brother...
