  1. I’d say the opt out is very likely, due to his agent’s preferred tactic of getting players into free agency as quick as possible. Is there any reason one could think of for X to not opt out? I know he simply might prefer Boston. Hey, he might. But then he did not hire Scott Boras because he was prioritizing the status quo…
  2. It’s just a thought, not some MLB rumor. The reason to suspect he might get dealt is he probably has one year left. The reason to think he won’t be dealt is, the Tampa way Bloom has used in the past is to deal players with multiple years left, allowing for a better return. That Bloom held Xander this off-season knowing he would be without Sale, intentionally keeping payroll below the reset line, and probably expecting the team to improve but not compete all suggests dealing Xander would have made more sense (using the Tampa Bay Way) 8 months ago as opposed to this off-season, so it’s probably not going to happen this year. Still, with a lot of shuffling and re-shuffling of the stars at his position this off-season, it leaves the question “is it the right time to move Xander due to a potential demand or the exact wrong time due to all the other options in free agency?”
  3. I have serious doubts. However, if the right deal can be struck, he should. And as mentioned 2 posts earlier, there may be a decent amount of teams looking for SS help. Just don't deal him to the Yankees. (Personally, I'd rather the team find a SP by moving Duran. More teams will be interested and willing to give up a SP, I'm not wild about Duran, and Hernandez or Verdugo can take over CF.)
  4. Disagree. A lot of ballparks have some bad seats. I'm a bit spoiled because growing up, my dad had access to seats halfway down the first baseline about 8 rows back. But I've sat all over that ballpark (except atop the monster) and yes, if you're towards the back it can be awful. But I've stood in the SRO areas in deep RF and enjoyed it. and sitting right next to Pesky's Pole is the best place to watch from. The back seats in the lower levels suck, but that's true for a lot of ballparks. Now, I've gone to Wrigley and Comiskey/US Cellular/Guranteed Rate Field alot, too. Wrigley seating is nowhere as good as Fenway, especially in the OF. And until Theo took over and moved the scoreboard (angering the neighbors who sold roof top seats), it was not as easy to see. And GRF used to have the steepest seating in the upper levels. It was like climbing a ladder on those stairs..
  5. It is odd, although half of that differential happened in two games (16-1 loss to the Padres and 15-1 loss to the Astros)...
  6. For all the talk and (very legitimate) worries about Barnes, his struggles only encompass 5.2 IP and 10 games. 5.2 IP is one bad start. He's 31 and only signed a two year extension. He might never be the pitcher he was for the first 4 months of 2021 again, but even of he returns to being the pitcher he was in 2019, it will still be a win...
  7. Well, teams that could spend at SS include the Yankees, Cubs, Astros, Angels, Phillies, Giants, Nationals and Cardinals. And there has been a long-standing rumor that the Rangers cleared out Andrus and temporarily installed IKF at SS in order to clear the way for Texas native Trevor Story....
  8. He's another excelllebt candidate. I like Simmons' defense better, but that's no slight to Iglesias. But then unless Bloom deals Bogaerts, I think we know who will be at SS...
  9. It’s not a gamble but the criteria Tomase used to judge some of his deals was crap. Holmes and Davis were essentially the same pitchers in Pittsburgh, and actually Davis was arguably better. That Holmes has pitched better since the deal is just hindsight…
  10. Would the Sox trade away a Cy Young winner with multiple years of control left to get a 21yo MLB-ready pitcher?
  11. Send a white horse to Worcester!!
  12. If I had to guess, I would think these types of deals are allowed to prevent players from stagnating in the minors while actual positions in MLB in other orgs are possible…
  13. The Astros gave up Abraham Toro, an MLB-ready infielder who can hit to get Graveman. Who was the Sox better offer? Ditto with Bryce Wilson. Austin Davis did have a uninspiring 5.11 ERA for Pitt, but suddenly pretending Clay Holmes and his 4.93 ERA for Pitt was the obvious choice is just hindsight. Chafin and Tepera were both having great seasons, and Tepera especially with his AL East experience and underrated career should not have been ignored. That he went for the White Sox 30th best prospect (pre-season Fangraphs ranking with 35+ FV) makes it more glaring…
  14. But he won’t sign anything until he sees what Correa gets…
  15. Love Simmons defensively. I told jacko all off-season that’s the guy Cashman should have been going after. But I think we all know who the Sox shortstop will be in 2021…
  16. One year of Bogaerts might be worth 6 years of Jeter Downs…
  17. And just where can we get one such wizard?
  18. Updating is a slow process on that site. Their first year, they were doing it monthly and I messaged the administrator and reminded him to go right to off-season values after August since no more trades were possible during the year anyway. With one season left, figure Bogaerts surplus value to be roughly $28mill . If he is projected for a 6 fWAR season, that’s worth $48mill and take away his $20 mill salary..,
  19. Or maybe the Sox deal Bogaerts for Marsh, whose basically a Jarren Duran clone except that he can hit and field, and then flip Duran for pitcher. Unlike Bogaerts, Duran will appeal to some small market teams due to his salary and control…
  20. The main reason to not worry about Bloom only knowing how to run small market teams is that patience is a fireable offense in the Sox organization. Bloom certainly knows this. He has to. Even I know it…
  21. Not sure how they handled it, but that kind of thing is rarely ignored by them…
  22. Per BTV, the starting pitchers with the closest trade value to Bogaerts (52.4) are Miami’s Sixto Sanchez (56.1), Miami’s Pablo Lopez (53.8), the Dodgers Julio Urias (51.1) and Tampa’s Shane McClanahan (51.0) and Dylan Cease of the White Sox (50.2). Using my (potentially incorrect) criteria, Lopez is the most likely pitcher to be available. I’m basing this on the Marlins’ depth, needs, and that he is eligible for arbitration. And that the Marlins aren’t very good. So if a third team was involved - say the Angels, who do need a shortstop themselves and seem to like big name players. Maybe a deal sending Bogie to LA and the Angels sending Brandon Marsh to the Marlins and then Lopez to Boston? With the couple low value supplementary pieces here and there? To me, this is not likely. If Marsh (plus?) was enough to pry Lopez out of Miami, the Angels take Lopez over Bogaerts and call it a day…
  23. Not if 5Gold becomes the GM. He’s been all in on Correa since February…
  24. If they deal X, they better be bringing in a top quality starter some how. I tend to think they would NOT get one for Bogaerts, as his appeal will largely be to teams hoping to contend and have a hole at SS. Teams hoping to contend rarely trade top quality starters, and the few teams that do things like that rarely take on $20 mill players. So a three-way trade (which is rare) or a separate deal for SP…
