  1. I did already start a thread for the former two time Sox pitcher on the General Baseball forum...
  2. I’m fine with Munoz over Arroyo. But Downs can wait for a starting job...
  3. Arroyo is the utility infielder. "Low ceiling" is in the job requirements...
  4. Not sure, but the original diagnosis had him out for 8 months after surgery, which he had on September 9th. So mid-May return?
  5. At age 53...
  6. So Duran is a better CF than Cordero?
  7. I’m not worried about the catching. The issues are more likely to be the tracking. But overall, the OF isn’t going to be the biggest issue defensively. We saw Verdugo last year. He won’t be Bradley in CF, but he won’t be Dwayne Hosey either. Renfroe’s metrics place him as an average RF. And Cordero’s metrics are weak but the sample sizes are way too small. Scouts have always liked his defense. But people who have never seen him play and fall back on the metrics might be disillusioned. The infield defense is the greater concern...
  8. I do think an outfield of Cordero-Verdugo-Renfroe might give the Sox the best combination of throwing arms in MLB. Those guys all have cannons...
  9. Actually many scouts like Cordero’s defense. His metrics are based on 600 innings spread out 3 positions and 4 seasons and tell very little at this point. Clint Frazier’s metrics are worse and based on larger samples, but because some clearly stoned BBWAA member finagled a Gold Glove nomination for him, Yankee fans think he’s actually good out there...
  10. Have we seriously reached the point of claiming we miss Tzu-Wei Lin? What’s next - decrying management for letting Sam Travis get away? If you like Lin, don’t worry. He’ll be available next year. And the year after. And the year after that. And, heck, probably after every year until finally he decides to retire...
  11. Depends. Do you think 1995-1999 deserve asterisks as well?
  12. As a doctor, you know surgery is the most extreme medical solutions and typically a last resort. I get why people try to avoid. Plenty of people who are not MLB pitchers do what they can to avoid it. We as fans get frustrated because we know how it usually ends anyway. But honestly, in the same position, I would do everything I could to avoid surgery...
  13. The Yankees have been sanctioned once already...
  14. ... which was immaterial, the especially since the rest of the bullpen put the other three on base. Benoit was the fourth reliever in that inning...
  15. Odorizzi to Astros. This one looked obvious once Framber Valdez went down. Next up - Rick Porcello...
  16. So... TJ surgery getting more likely...
  17. Not only a small sample size, but not even a representative one. Not every pitcher he’s faced will be in MLB. And who knows what speed the ones he is facing are at right now...
  18. Also Arroyo is out of options. Chavis is not...
  19. No. I used Ortiz’ shot as an example of their woeful bullpen...
  20. That was my point...
  21. He probably suspected it, but he had know way of knowing as that would have been tampering...
  22. And he very well might put those numbers up. In Worcester...
  23. I don't think the idea was sustained success at a lower cost. While I am sure Henry would prefer that, I think sustained success alone would be enough. Just because they tried to reset in what was obviously a lost season anyway doesn't mean that is the plan every year. I do think the strategy would be different this offseason if they at least had a healthy Sale. And the Sox payroll right now is like $190 million. Can we at least get into the mindset that spending $190 million on anything other than a remote island in the Pacific is not going cheap?
  24. They took on about $73mill in salary and gave up a good young player and a top prospect. It really was about the best the Sox could hope for...
