Good. But of course, UZR is evaluated against league average, so it also depends on which shortstop played in league with better counterparts. And really, I’m not sure which one did. Through age 29, Jeter played in a league where teams were just starting to get premium offense from the SS position, but Bogaerts played his career where the curve was literally destroyed by Andrelton Simmons…

Maybe Verdugo could have snuck in behind Arozarena to cover third. Given how far everyone had shifted, they clearly did not expect Verdugo to be needed for any sort of batted ball...

Well, it might be a factor. Even Bloom has to realize he cannot be the guy who traded Betts, Benintendi and Bogaerts and let Bradley walk unless he can win another title very quickly. If he does win, he can be known as a Brilliant GM. If he does not, then he his public rep is just as likely to be known as The Guy Who Broke Up the Killer B's for No Reason. And he might not be so hot on being known as Frazee 2.0....

The only way Martinez opts out is if the NL formally adopts the DH for the 2022 season before his decision date (or if Boras strongly suspects it will happen this coming off-season).

Being in the shift also helped. What good was checking Arozarena going to do when Devers was 45 feet away from the base anyway?

League minimum, and will be for two more years after which he will finally be eligible for arbitration. They did give up a very good pitching prospect to acquire him, but I don’t think that prospect has made his MLB debut yet…

If he advises it, we can assume it happens. Bogaerts isn’t paying Boras millions per year to ignore his advice…

Now it is possible that instead of splurging on free agents, Bloom simply extends Bogaerts. If his offer is comparable in years and cash to what Correa, Seager and Story get, than Bogaerts could easily stay. That whole situation is so volatile right now. If X is adamant about not extending, then maybe he does become trade fodder. There is literally no outcome I see as impossible, except the one where Bogaerts signs nothing and also refuses his opt out…

Well, let me see. There was that golf one. I think it was called “Beagle That Hole.” They he made the next WNBA one “Spayed Away Jump Shot.” I think he made that curling straight-to-DVD one called “Bone Spiel.” And who can forget the classic “Play Deadball Foul” basketball remix. And his classic one based on dogs playing poker - “Mutt the Deck”. I think there were some others. Wasn’t there another baseball one called “Switch Litter”?

Do you actually think his agent, whose name rhymes with Scott Boras, will advise him to not opt out and therefore delay his free agency until he is 33 years old and will probably cost him about $50-100 mill when all is said and done?

Did they really have any clutch hits last night? They scored on a bobble in CF, two solo home runs, and a steal of home. The announcers made a big deal that the only hit the Sox got with RISP was Bogaerts’ misplayed pop up, but the only hit Tampa got with RISP was Yandy Diaz’ trickling grounder to 3b in the first inning…

Possible the up-in-the-air status of Sale had any impact? Why go all in if you don’t even know if you’re going to be at full strength?

The 2020 Red Sox were eliminated in March when both Sale and ERod went down for the season. That was just too much to replace in too little time…

I might be alone here. But in hindsight and since the Sox got shut out, I’m at least glad Devers didn’t connect off Feyereisen in the 8th and hit the grand slam. I figure we’re going to be inundated with the Legend of Randy Arozarena enough as it is; can you imagine how many times we’d hear about that steal of home if it actually had turned out to be the winning run?

You do realize which team win the AL pennant last year and which one had the fourth draft pick. It’s not like the Sox are the favorites here…

Not yet, as the ALDS is a best of 5. So if Sale wins tonight and the Sox take both at Fenway. It’s not likely IMO but it is certainly possible…
